Because snitches abuse people's trust. You're taking things revealed to you with the understanding that you would keep them to yourself and then broadcasting that information. Snitches often also prevent otherwise good people from being able to do things that really aren't hurting anyone.

+1 yBecause, in terms of crime, snitching is basically an act of betrayal. While I definitely don't condone criminal activity, imagine that you got involved with crime. Let's say, for example, you were struggling, couldn't find work for whatever reason be it discrimination, economic recession, etc. homeless, and had no family to take you in or support you. You start committing crime to support yourself. In the process, you take people that you trust under your wing. Something happens and you get caught by the cops. Because your friends want minimal time, they tell on you and say that the crimes were all your idea. Naturally, you wouldn't like that, nor have any respect for those people that you thought were your friends. That's why people don't like snitches. In the sense of it outside of being a criminal, I believe certain crimes just aren't worth being a tattletale about. For example, if a person wants to smoke his or her weed or if a woman has fallen on hard times and decided to be a prostitute to support herself, I mind my own business. Telling on people in these situations is, in my opinion, being an asshole. However, if there was a shooting, rapist, or serial killer on the block, then you should definitely report that because these are serious offenses that threaten people's well-being.

+1 yI mean it really depends on how you define the word snitch.
For example for me somebody who is a snitch is someone who is either making up things about other people to get them in trouble, someone who doesn’t know the full story and chooses to act rather than understand, or people who are so privileged that they have nothing better to do with their lives then try and get other people in trouble, etc.
Yes there are certain exceptions to the snitching rule for example if you see somebody blatantly committing a crime yes do call the cops on them. Someone’s beating a child, beating their spouse, committing Grandtheft, committing a carjacking, etc. yes do call the police for those reasons, and more. That being said if you’re going to call the cops make sure you film it so that way if you are going to be that person at least you have proof.
Which adds another little point to this dynamic. Snitches often don’t have any type of actual feasible proof that something has happened. In fact often more than not it’s just word-of-mouth. Which often is used by snitches so they can getting people in trouble for nothing. It’s not cool, and those people should in fact get stitches.
If you’re trying to help do so in the right way.
So to more directly summarize, and answer your question people dislike snitches; because often a snitch is associated as a person who intentionally seeks to get others in trouble for nothing. If you don’t want to be a snitch have actual proof that an actual crime has been committed.
Well that’s my two cents in it. So love it or hate it that’s what it is. I hope I have answered your question to the best of my ability.00 ReplyBecause it undermines people's trust and sells out your community in order to serve those who do not have your best interests in mind. It's cowardly and selfish.
Keep in mind, "snitching" is not calling the police on violent and dangerous people, or reporting true illegal activity that can hurt someone. It's ratting people out when they aren't doing anything wrong or that bad. A "snitch" serves to hurt people because they're petty and unhappy, not protect them. This is also why Cancel Culture is bad.
Also, as a blue anon put it on here, no one is without sin, so the same tactics can be used against you for doing something innocuous and innocent that goes against a potentially oppressive government or is just a stupid and pointless rule no one asked for or needed.10 ReplyPeople don't seem understand what it even means. It doesn't mean reporting a crime, it means you betray your partner in crime in order to get lesser punishment yourself. If you and your buddy decide to commit a crime and then when he gets busted, he busts you too, of course you hate him for doing that, he's betraying you. Even if you are not a criminal, you know that's fucked up thing to do. If someone just steals your car and you report it to the police that's not snitching, you are not betraying anyone.

+1 yi look t it like this im a snitch not a bitch and that pretty much means if your life is not in danger then under the bus you go. i mean look at all the unsolved murder cases due to people being some ones bitch. thats not and if you have to live by the snitches get stitches. im not afraid to die for my believes and not many people will do that or even say that.
but you got to stand for something or your gonna get walked on all day because you
dont use your voice because of bending over for someone. there are 2 people i might go further for but its only because there not family i dont trust them but these people i do.
you have to earn the respect im talking about an die for it if needed00 Replysnitching is kinda bad when lets say you and your friends did something stupid and you get caught and you squeal like a bird I wasn't alone and get them in trouble too for no reason
lets up the stakes you and your friend are growing weed you get caught for it and then you snitch your friend out in hopes of gettin off with a slap on the wrist that is being a rat
what is not motherfucking snitching is if someone is harassing/stalking trying to harm you your livelihood etc and you call the cops on him that ain't being a snitch10 ReplyI really don't care about snitching. Snitching is when you squeal to the cops about actual crimes, not this petty work place tattle-tale petty drama stuff people seem to think it is. I don't live a life of crime, and if anything, snitches benefit me. Dope dealers create or feed the fiends, who increase crime rates and cause urban deterioration. Junkies, dealers, and those in gangs are pieces of shit, too lazy to work and incapable of functioning as a productive member of society. Death, or long prison sentences is the best case scenario for them if reform isn't possible. The only "crime" on the books in certain states that I really don't care about is weed. It's just a matter of time before it's legal.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yThere's no such thing as "snitching" lowlifes should not expect some kind of solidarity. Commit a crime in my presence and I'll punish you for it, possibly myself.
The last person to say "snitches get stitches" to me woke up in a puddle of their own blood, teeth and piss. Suffice to say trash knows to keep its distance from me now, and that's how I like it.
Anyone who walks in to my shop knows there's a shotgun under the counter just waiting for a dumbass to act gangster.05 Reply
Opinion Owner+1 yApparently neither do the people who use it as a generalized threat.
Opinion Owner+1 yLike I catch some shithead just eating my stock in the isles and when I tell him to get the fuck out he says that shit to me. I whooped him the way his daddy shoulda and tossed that degen in the trash heap out back. Wised his ass up, now he stays the fuck out my store.
+1 yIt's just something criminals and bad people made and became a thing in order to get away with doing bad stuff.
If someone I knew got murdered, I would want people to 'snitch' so the person can be brought to justice. Why would that be 'bad' to put a murderer in jail?00 ReplyUmm people should stop using words like snitches. Sometimes kids or even anyone getting bullied gets called a snitch for reporting such heinous actions. There is no shame in reporting abuse. I hate words like snitches because it lets disgusting people get away with abuse and bullying.
00 Reply461 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Like, going out of your way just to get someone in trouble or bring them down when what they're doing doesn't harm yourself or others.
Only themselves. That's when I think it's shitty.
Like let's say a job doesn't let you have tattoos or piercings, but the person covers them and is hiding them.
Someone going out of their way to "snitch" on them and tell others they're hiding them is pretty shitty.00 Reply
+1 yIt depends on the situation, sometimes people have no choice but to snitch. Such as if there a work hazard it’s ok to call OSHA. If someone is harassing you it’s also ok to call HR. And if a company is doing something detestable there may be pushback but depending on the situation it’s ok to whistleblow.

+1 yBecause the truth of it is snitches get stitches no matter how people don’t want to hear it. There’s good in snitching, for the justice of people who have been put through nothing but pain and grief then there’s snitching, unprovoked voluntary without understand the situation. One can not be involved and snitch and someone innocent ends up getting hurt. So there’s good and bad in snitching

+1 yDefine Snitch? is that when someone calls the police when they see a crime or when a sibling tells their parents on another sibling who may be doing something dangerous?
Is it when someone is a bully at school and another tells the teacher about it?00 Reply
+1 yYeah, snitching is a big business in China and the former communist block. If you didn't like your neighbor, you just reported them to the government as hostile actors and they would come and take people away, no questions asked. Nobody ever knew what happened after that. Free labor until you drop dead and replaced with your other neighbor.

That sounds exactly what my great-grandfather told me about life in USSR
Nothing is wrong with snitching. But if you have to go out of your way to snitch then that is when you look entitled or like your some savior. If you know something and by not telling it will get you in trouble or get someone killed then tell but if not mind your own business and stay in your world. Not for them but for your own peace of mind.

+1 yPeople that hate "snitching" must've been snitched on... bet money they'd appreciate a "snitch" if it meant that they benefit from it. For example, let's say they had a loved one that was murdered. Bet money they'd appreciate someone coming forward and snitching on the person that murdered their loved one.

+1 yThe only time I have a problem with snitching is when people make a big deal over stupid little things. Like filing a report because someone drove 5 mph over the speed limit or calling the police because your neighbors are having a paintball war in their large fenced-in backyard. But when it comes to real criminal shit, I HIGHLY encourage snitching.
00 ReplyThe only reason to snitch about something is because someone is doing something wrong.
If it's illegal, everyone should be a snitch. There are so many problems in our world because people are to afraid to say something.10 Reply

10 ReplyCan't say i hate, hate them more like they have their usefulness, but still the rat is a rat. So you can't trust a person who's ready to betray someone so easy.

I thinks it's important to know the terms not to be manipulated by criminals or by friends or family members who commit crimes. It's only snitching if you are equally part of the crime and you report your partner (usually in order to reduce your punishment). It's not snitching to report a friend or a family member if they do the wrong thing. That's just doing the right thing and reporting a crime. Snitching always involves betrayal. You didn't sign up for being responsible with all the immoral actions your friends might do. On the contrary, it would be betrayal from your friends part to make you accountable for his actions by expecting you to be silent.

If he's as tough as he ACTS then he should've gotten back at them in jail like a real gangster or thug would do... at least used to. I don't know about today's "thugs and gangsters" though.
