Friends, family, love ones?
+1 yThey can at times, yes. Reasons may include but are not limited to not wanting to pull people down with them, wanting to get through it alone, feeling like a burden if others try and help and like they’re not worthy of help (doesn’t excuse if they’re a jerk about it though but just might explain WHY they’re acting out IF they are)

+1 yYes. I’ve done it before when I was going through depression. Show them you care for them. I wish someone had done that for me in the past.
23 Reply- +1 y
Yes I’d say give them their space but be clear in that you’d be there for me if they need you and show them you love and care for them.

the new girlfriend is bitchy towards mw and this time my faith grew tremendously because i just had miraculous experience and so i realize i can just let go and pray for his well-being and that he is happy. i always wish him to be happy00 Reply- 2.7K opinions shared on Family & Friends topic.
u +1 ywhen I was a kid and early teens... I would not drive people away from me, no
but I would drive myself away from people, yes... everyone, family and friends
and it wasn't just physically but mentally and emotionally as well... while among family and friends I could sometimes just wall up even when I didn't mean to do so, I just could not bring myself to connect and bond at the moment... and isolating, distancing myself felt bad but it did not stop me from doing so, I would still do it... because "depression made me do it"
now, I worked a lot on this stuff so it is a thing from the past, but even in my late teens... I could still have some episodes and try "drive away" so, by this time and point of my life I could reach and warn people about it, let them know... or it would be them my friends and family, girlfriends to recognize it... and they would reachif they had to go all the way to my place and get inside my room to drag me out of there... they would do exactly that, or to send a search party up to the mountains when I'd escape for vacations... lol

+1 yI would say yes, sadly. This can also happen with anxiety disorders too. The person doesn't mean to do this, but they aren't themselves in those states, so their mood & emotions will shift (negatively that is). It's very hard to get out of the state once you're in it. So, then it's a half & half of leaving them alone and space is good but being there for them is also good type of thing. As you can tell by now it's very stressful for both people involved. I know when I had my episodes I'd think "It's a great idea to maybe talk to people." and it's like "No, no it isn't. Just stay away and let yourself go through it. Nobody can handle this but you. And we don't need any relationships ruined due to your moodiness, again." But then sometimes I be dumb and do it anyway. Then I feel more worse rather than better, even though the intent of interacting was to help me feel better.

+1 ypeople with depression are afraid of being judged and rejected because they are unwell, so they create distance between themselves and other people. They also don't believe that anyone will believe them or understand how they feel.
The best help is to find them a specialist and convince them to try to talk with a specialist... The longer they have to deal with the depression without the help, the harder it would be to convince them that they need it... and that someone actually can help them...34 Reply- +1 y

don't be friends with us if you take it personally and it's toxic. if it's not then let us know you'll be there when we're doing better and just give us space bc we'll come back22 Reply 496 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Depression is a very complicated illness. It actually needs isolation to thrive so the sufferer will either withdraw from the company of others by becoming reclusive or will try to drive the people who care about them away. Either way they end up alone and focusing on their own shortcomings.
How do you deal with it? It depends if you're the friend or the sufferer.
If you're the friend, don't take "no" for an answer. At least, not every time. If they don't want to go out, go sit with them and hold their hands. You don't have to speak, just listen to them.10 Reply- 918 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic.
+1 ynot caused by depression just sometimes people are jerks even when they need help.
recently 2 ladies confided nobody helped them. so i said exchange numbers if you need help call me!
a week later i asked "what is new?" each wrote back how dare you write me!
they want, prefer to complain "nobody helps them" so they can pretend and play victim mindset even if people offer to help.

+1 yYes they do but if it’s someone you really care about be persistent and don’t allow them to push you away. You may get your feelings hurt but stay tough and be there for them even if they don’t want you to.
14 Reply- +1 y
Well because they feel like you don’t understand them

@Pinay_ako we are only human and can only do the best we can. When that becomes too much we have to walk away… it might hurt us to do that but some people can’t be saved.
Yes "Self Sabotage" can come from a core belief that says "I'm not good enough, I dont deserve a relationship, etc" so we give up, regrettably without even really trying. It's very painful and can last forever unless changes are made in their core beliefs.
30 ReplyI can't speak for everyone but I certainly did. I went ti an academy because I loved art at the time. But the depression was so bad that I forgot why I went there. I just wanted an escape. And teacher saw I was lonely (not that I cared) and asked others no include me, god bless her. But I pushed them all away, I would have none of it.

+1 yyes. it can be something depressed people do. a lot of the time it can be a giveaway they're contemplating a more suicidal approach
13 Reply- +1 y
when people are close to trying a suicide attempt, they can push away people close to them to "minimise" damage caused to others.
Well as a guy who has been depressed and probably still is some days yes we push people away. Men are worth because we push without showing it. It's more we stay away and avoid them when possible.

+1 yThey push others away because they fear they would get hurt again.
it’s a demon inside that keeps them from accepting others … very hard to break through…Some require expertises.

+1 yDepends on if they’re working on an “exit plan” or not most of the time, but they do expect and subconsciously believe you will eventually reject them if not secretly hate them
10 ReplyYes sometimes they do.
It can be because of fear of getting too attached and then being left by them.
Or fearing that they would be a burden.26 Reply
+1 yyes, if they refuse to seek help and do anything and just want a pity party
16 Reply- +1 y
tell them to seek help and suppor them. If they refuse, you may have to cut them loose. If they don't want to change, they'll not change
- +1 y
@Rangers no, if they don't even try, they just like the attention from people pitying them
- +1 y
@Rangers it was for me before a very good friend told me if I don't do anything to get help, she would cut me off. Changed my life

10 Reply 749 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. They tend to, because everything seems so hopeless, and it can be draining to others
10 ReplyYes. I'm in this stage now, pushing away only one person, who help and support me. Because I didn't want her to absorb my bad mood.
