Does a man have to pay child support for an adopted child?

Life example:

A married couple adopted (both consented to the legal adoption process) a baby. Years later, they're in the process of getting a divorce. The child is still a minor.

Does the guy (child's adopted dad/father figure) still have to pay child support?

It's a conflicted side. Even though it's not his biological child, he was aware of it from the beginning and raised him/her as his child.

IANAL but I would think they would. I don't know what state/country you are in so I couldn't even begin to try and look up the laws for your area. One would think though if he's adopted the child and his name is on the paperwork, then he would be responsible.

I find it interesting. In the life example (I knew that couple), the child is registered under the guy's last name. So I'm guessing that yeah, the guy has an obligation, the same as if it were his bio child.

Yeah I would say in that scenario he would need to pay. What happened in your scenario, did he end up paying?

I was in the process of moving when that happened. I heard elsewhere that he was made to pay for his adopted daughter. Yeah he still had to pay.

uh yeah... they both adopted that child together. therefore, regardless of divorce, you are still responsible for the child you adopted.

Yes he does because he is now the legal father of that child and he should pay because he decided to adopt the child as well as the mother.

Yes, child support for an adopted child is just like for a biological child. In fact, legally there’s no difference in regards to anything at all, not just child support, if someone adopted a child vs had a biological one.
