Boyfriend always involves friends?

I met my boyfriend 1.5 years ago. Our first date, his sister's house. Second date, his cousin's house. As time has gone on everything we do involves either his friends or his family. It's always a group situation. We hav literally never been on a date that was just he and I. We both have kids, his only in the summer... mine live with us. We have lived together for 8 months. Normally having his people around doesn't bother me, they are good people. However, I am taking him to my hometown this weekend to meet my dad and my best friend and show him where I come from essentially. Like this is a family thing. He is being brought into my world around my people for once. Today he told me he invited his friend and his friend's family to join us on this trip. I reacted. I'm upset because, wtf? This is important, you are meeting my dad! Ultimately I told him he can forget coming with me and just spend the weekend with his buddy since that's what he wants, I will just go with my kids. What am I missing here? I feel like I might be over reacting, but I also feel justified. I have never been with anyone that involves other people all the time like this. What's the deal?

I don't think you're overreacting at all. I mean you should be his priority not his friends especially when meeting your dad for the first time. Sounds like he has separation anxiety about being away from his family and friends.
