Sardines in water is fine. Don't use the sardines in oil because they usually add other things to it that may not be good for the cat.

A lot of things sold as sardines are not actually sardines... They are often things like sprats which are similar to sardines. But either way it's okay for your cat as long as it's in water. But as someone else suggested I would not give them too much. I don't know about a third of a sardine, I think a sardine or two should be fine but you can start off with less and see how they handle it.

      https://petcube.com/blog/can-cats-eat-fish/

      "Can cats eat sardines
Sardines or pilchards are an excellent source of Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin B12, and protein. Practice moderation here, as the high-fat content in these fish potentially causes weight gain, not to mention that these fish may contain heavy metals and toxins.

If you decide to treat your cat to some sardines, make sure to cook them. Avoid smoked sardines, and if you're using canned varieties, always check the labels. Sardines preserved in brine will have a very high sodium content and should be avoided or, at the very least, rinsed before serving.

Those preserved in oil should be thoroughly drained to avoid giving your cat too much high-calorie oil. Whenever possible, go for sardines, which don't contain garlic, onion, and tomato."

Perhaps but they usually prefer a variety of hors d'oeuvres eg. Smoked salmon,, sevruga caviar with blini. Generally accompanied by brut Krug or Pol Roger champagne. Most gourmet vats prefer French champagne and will be upset with any other sparkling wine.

Who would even consider giving a meal to their cat without a proper pairing?

      Oh the humanity!

Yes, if they are unsalted. Sometimes tuna or sardines contain lot of salt it's bad for kidneys of pets. Humans lose a lot of salt due sweating that's why salt doesn't harm us that much.

Maybe wash the oil out. But yes they can eat that, and also boiled eggs. And they’ll be fine. They’re strict carnivorous. Research and B Careful 😬

The olive oil is going to make that cat shit like a goose and there is too much sodium. Unsalted sardines in water would be ok for an occasional treat.

Giving your Sardines in Olive oil should not be a problem as long as you drain the majority of the Olive oil as it can up set the digestion of the cat resulting in a gastrointestinal upset which will mean a messy clean up, as your cat might not make it to the litter tray.

The Olive oil will not work for your cat..

Their systems are not set up for that , stick to fresh seafood , or commercial cat food is easy , but my cat can smell out fresh fish from miles , which is easy and cheap here.

No! Only in natural spring water with no added salt. And only a tiny bit a day 1/3 of a sardine is plenty.

@Staximus they're not that small usually in a can there's only 3 Sardines. I gave them to my cat to boost their omega 3 for a little while.

The oil isn't harmful but can add unnecessary fat to your cats diet potentially leading to obesity

You can do anything you set your mind to... but if you give your cat sardines in oil expect to find runny shit in your shoes, on your couch or on your blankets.

That’s an expensive treat but the oil is not a good thing for the cat, they have a sensitive digestive system
