I went to the store and left my room door closed (not locked) and my baby siblings already know not to go into my room while I out but did it anyway my stepfather told my mom to reimburse me shortly after I found out but after overhearing a conversation this morning doesn't look like that happen. Am I within my rights to sue?

If you are mentally ill and want to sue your Mom over a video game? then go waste your time , just forget about all the bills she pays to keep a roof over your head and all the food you eat that I am sure she shops for , over a fucking video game? You are 18 years old and considered an adult , your Mom can easily kick you out of that house and put your ass on the street. Shit happens in life man, and you either grin and bear it , or get out. Your Mom already did her time with you , once you are 18, you are no longer her problem , you are the laws problem now. Be thankful your Mom allows you to stay in her home , it’s probably because she loves you , so why would you want to sue your Mom over a video game?

Anonymous(45 Plus)1 ylol maybe you should get out of the nest, be an adult like adults do. Find your own place. I’m sure you’re mom isn’t asking you to reimburse her for all the clothes she bought you, the food you ate, all the lost wages from work from staying home w you when you were sick. Grow up kid. Be a man. Stop being a baby. If someone should reimburse you, I’m not saying they should but that should be on your stepfather if he was supposed to e watching your siblings. This is the type of degenerates society raises today. A lot of entitled children who cry over everything. Do you help w utilities? Rent? Food? Etc, etc? If this is real the. You need to move your ass out, then complain about a game that’s probably less than $100 when you have to pay bills 10 times as much added up. If this is a troll, good try but no bueno. You’re going to have to do better than this lol join the military stop setting your diapers.

Anonymous(30-35)1 ySounds like you’re the one who effed up by not locking your door when you know your autistic baby brother can get into your things. When my dog is having stomach issues i know to make sure my door is closed so I don’t come home to shit all over my carpet.
Suing your mom for a $60 game sounds silly within itself, but in general it’s not her job to keep him out of your room. I think you’d have a better case of you pay rent there because then it’s property damage, but do you really want to set that tone in the place you’re living? If it were my kid suing I’d be like cool just get ready to move out when you’re done.210 Reply
Opinion Owner1 yLmao do you have that in writing? Doesn’t matter what he said she said, you don’t have proof. Sounds like it was your stepdads “job” anyway. Not your moms.
How you know the game was $60? For all you know it could have been a collector or limited edition which retail at about $100+ or so which ain't cheap. Plus maybe he didn't have a way to get back into his room after he locked it and if the little sister knows to stay out of his place that would mean she likely took the brother in there causing this to happen meaning she also responsible for getting the game broken.
Opinion Owner1 yLittle sister? Locked door? Did you read the context? He said his door was closed but unlocked, and that he’s thinking about suing his mother because his stepdad was supposed to keep his brother out of his room and failed to do it. Sure, the game could’ve been 60+ if he got some limited edition, but to me that’s neither here nor there because who she’s their parent over a game? Whilst living under their roof rent free most likely. He’s an irresponsible shit and needs to take accountability for his own missteps. Baldurs Gate isn’t his mothers problem.
Opinion Owner1 y**sues their parent
Oh I see how it is if said he was suing his stepfather you're be 100% on his side. But how dare he think about suing his own mom for it right? Cause it's TOTALLY fair if the genders were reversed. Also he could be a Nintendo not PlayStation... nice try tho.
Opinion Owner1 yGender doesn’t matter, his dad was supposed to be watching the kid, didn’t do it and now he wants someone else to pay. This is about fairness, not race or gender. You’re giving benefit of the doubt and that’s fine but I don’t work with speculation and “maybe”, I work with the context given. I base my opinion on context given. You are the one going way out of your way to make a story for this stranger on the internet when it’s really not that deep.
Opinion Owner1 yNintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, PC, what does the console matter?
He literally told me to make this account and gave me the link to this post so not really a stranger and there's more to this story that he not telling. Like he left out the part where he had a bad feeling when his little sister told him that his stepfather was in his room thus not telling the whole proof about her and the brother also being in there and his stepfather losing the key to unlock the bedroom door so if he locked it he would be locked outside his own room. And there's a reason he thinking suing his mom not only for the game but other things as well but honestly this isn't about those other things. Next time at least try asking darn questions before assuming things.
Opinion Owner1 yLmao what a fucking little baby! He didn’t like the negative feedback so he called a friend to come defend him. I’m not speaking with you anymore because I know your opinions are entirely biased. Listen good — I commented on the CONTEXT HERE. You are his real life friend you know a backstory, that’s great! We don’t! We have what is right here. So while you’re going and this whole spiel, why not save it and instead have a conversation with your dumb ass best friend about adding what’s required to get the full story? Of course that’s if you can find time between swaddling him and patting his ass.
Opinion Owner1 yAlso, tell him to be a man and MOVE OUT if he hates it so much? That will fix everything! Isn’t he an adult?

1 yIf you want to live in your mother's home after 18 you have to accept adult responsibilities. Request you put a padlock on your bedroom door and live like an actual paying tenant, or leap out into the big wide world like the rest of adults and leave these troubles behind... I'm pretty sure a judge would laugh in your face.

Well why don't you try this instead of that why don't you cook your mom dinner once in awhile why don't you clean the house up once in awhile why don't you do her chores and your chores and help her around the house maybe she'll buy you a new game I'm sure it was an accident when I was 5 years old my 3-year-old brother broke some of mine and I still remember to this day but be nice and doing the right thing for the right reasons will make you a better person and help your mom out at the same time

1 yAs long as you don't mind being countersued for anything she ever bought you or the household that you broke, I guess you could go that route.
She could always unsubscribe to things that she pays for also, like a cell phone bill if it's on a family plan or some kind of sports league, etc. Things like that are a privilege, not a right.
This is one of those things in life you have to say to yourself do I really rock the boat, especially if your mother does lots for you.

Asker1 yMy real dad pays my phone bill not my mom so I don't really worry about my phone being cut off

Ya, but there's lots of other things she doesn't have to do, like give you a lift somewhere, etc. If you are over 18 and living at home and not contributing to groceries, the internet bill, etc... that's a privilege too, not a right.

1 yAnyone can seek legal action however the court costs will cost more than the game so it’s not worth it. Your mother & stepfather should kick you out & if you sue your mom I hope you get kicked out. Reach out to the game company & if the game is able to be replaced tell them your story & see if they will send you a new one for free if you send them the broken one back.
12 ReplyWhat if they no longer making copies? That's also something to consider instead of assuming the game is freshly new and not old.
@RachelMichelleLight True on that one. Also I wonder if he ever broke anything of his moms because maybe she can counter sew him for that as well. His brother probably did him a favor anyway by breaking it & if wants to take his mother to court I think she should kick him out however pay for the game before she kicks him out.
1 yBrother it's really pathetic that you think you're entitled to sue your mom over a game. It's a game for fuck's sake. Sure it's sad, but do you have no love for your mother? Accidents happen and it's your autistic baby brother. Do you literally have no sympathy? Is all you want to do to game?
00 Reply864 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. You should have locked your door and your stepfather should have been watching your brother. Sounds like you and your stepfather fucked up. Get over it and learn to lock your door, big baby. If you sue your mom you're going to have to move out, dumb ass. What's more important, your dumb game or having a place to live?
00 ReplyA lawyer will take any case provided you pay. You won't win though and to be honest any adult kid living at home with his parents who thinks he can take his parents to court better be prepared to get evicted.

1 yIf your relationship is so bad with your family, how about just move out from their house? Or if they are living in your house just kick them out.
It’s ridiculous when a son who still live with parent going to sue his mom. Pathetic.00 Reply
I believe she's the one who should sue you for wasting 9 months of her time to bring your ASS into this world.
What a dumb question.20 Reply- 1.1K opinions shared on Family & Friends topic.
1 ySuing a family member is one of the dumbest things anyone can do. Have a talk with your parents and see if they will help pay for a replacement game. They may agree, they may not.

1 yI think it's useless to sue for such a problem, I don't think you would gain from it

1 yYes but depending on how expensive that game was you will spend more in legal fees at a small claims court. If it was under 300 don’t bother.
00 Reply376 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Maybe she should throw you ot of the house so you can act like an adult.

14 ReplyWow assuming he has no job is wild also it doesn't matter if he have a job or not point is he should still get that money paid back considering the adults in the house was supposed to watching them and anything the child breaks the parents is responsible for especially if he paid for it out of his own pocket.
- 1 y
@RachelMichelleLight he wrote in his other question he doesn't have a job...
expecting that other people will solve your problems is unrealistic approach, he is an adult and can live his life without any help if he doesn't like it how it is at home So you're saying he shouldn't expect to be paid back the money for a broken item he paid for out of his pocket? Being an adult and having a job doesn't matter in this situation if someone broke something he paid for then he have a right to expect to reimbursed for said item as stated in US law.
- 1 y
@RachelMichelleLight he can do whatever he wants, just his expectations that others will fix his life for him are unrealistic
also, suing for a broken game will cost him more than the game itself :D
1 yHow much was the game?
