What to do I can't stand her narcissism anymore?

I have a friend I've known for years. She's has a huge ego. I believe she's insecure because her ego is so big.

She puts down other people too. Sometimes I get a text oh I feel fat n bloated today. Then I get texts I feel great and I'm beautiful today. I'm so skinny and my face is great I just want perfection.

She makes me want to vomit because she's getting worse as her business is starting to really flourish.

She is not perfection and her skinny ness is making her look gaunt in her face as she ages. How the hell do I handle this her? When she texts me how great she is I just don't reply

Girl, I feel your pain with the narc friend. That sh*t gets old quick! A few thoughts on handling it:

- Keep responses short and non-committal when she's bragging. "Cool" "Ah okay" Less fuel for her ego fire.

- Suggest changing subject when convo turns to her looks. "So what else is new with you? How's work?"

- Set boundaries! Let her know her put-downs make you uncomfortable.

- Spend less solo time with her if she won't respect that. Keep distance needed for sanity.

- Surround yourself with friends who uplift YOU too in convos, not just talk about themselves.

- You don't have to cut her off entirely, but don't be afraid to pull back if she's bringing you down.

- Her issues say it all - don't take it personally! You rock just being you.

Stay strong sis! You got this. You don't deserve the mind games - put yourself first here. Her actions will show how good a friend she really is.

Why do people stay friends with people they genuinely despise?

I am not trying to be an ass, I am actually quite curious because it is something I can't quite figure out while observing people. It doesn't make any sense to me. If I don't like someone I tell them or I distance myself.

If it’s actually narcissism, I find grayrocking to be a solid technique.


This doesn’t sound like narcissism tho, this just sounds like you’re tired of her being unable to validate herself and her relying on you to do that for her
