How not to leave people out for a birthday party?

So I'm having my 16th birthday soon and I am not into parties because I don't want to leave people out. I have a lot of friends and I never have birthdays because there's too many people. But this is my 16th birthday and I don't know how to approach it. The biggest issue is that all of my friends are in different groups. I don't really want to invite like 40 people over. The other thing is that I have a lot of friends that I've grown distant from, but I still feel obligated to invite them because they're family friends, team members, etc. Should I try to keep it small and hope everything goes well, or should I just have a BBQ in my backyard and ask people to stop in if they want?

If you have 40 people you want at your party, you could host an event at a restaurant and tell the restaurant 3 weeks ahead of schedule you will have a party and anticipate 40 guests coming over. Pick a restaurant that usually does not get a lot of customers cause if it is popular, it might be impossible to seat 40 people in the restaurant within 20 minutes of arrival there. Pick a restaurant that still has enough customers that they will not run out of food to process your order cause I went to a restaurant with few customers and the result was around 20% of the things we asked for were on their written menu but not available in their food inventory.

Only invite the ones closest to you were you would care about if you got invited in return or not.
