JD Vance says that the solution to the childcare crisis is to have relatives do it for free. Is this a good idea?

Vance said "One of the ways that you might be able to relieve a little bit of pressure on people who are paying so much for daycare is…maybe grandma and grandpa want to help out a little bit more, or maybe there’s an aunt or uncle that wants to help out a little bit more. If that happens, you relieve some of the pressure on all the resources that we’re spending on daycare.” Of course Conservatives will quickly tell you "NOTHING is free", so is this somehow an exception to that rule of theirs?

Yes, the reason that my wife stayed home when our kids were little is that we did not want strangers raising our kids. The idea of our kids sitting in a dirty diaper until ten minutes before we pick them up was reprehensible. . We lived on one income and my wife could have had a well paying job but we put our kids first instead of spending money on expensive toys .

The problem with that is those relatives are also working and have their own lives/kids to raise 😂

I know this all too well cause even to get my own mother (who doesn't work) to come watch my kids for two days while I was in the hospital giving birth was like pulling teeth. I cannot imagine having to find someone daily to watch my kids especially for free

Grandma and grandpa already raised their kids. They don't need to be looking after grandchildren 9 hours a day. I'm sure to some they would love it, but for 9 hours? Maybe if you had a part time job of no more than 6 hours a day? Depends on the ages of the kids and how much attention they need. The younger the children the harder it would be.

Most people do that first if they can and if they have relatives that can or have any , the other option is for one parent to stay home if they live somewhere where the cost of living isn’t so high and can afford to or if they work different shifts

Ideally we would all live near able, capable and willing extended families who would just love to get involved with our young kin.
But that's not modern living or modern family for many people. So the suggestion is not helpful and smacks of short sightedness.

Familial bonding and using your social support structure to make life easier on people through fostering a sense of community? Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good solution, actually.

Humanity has only been relying on strong families for thousands of years (they still do in the rest of the world). I'm not sure why strong families would suddenly be a bad idea now.

It does. The second amendment states:

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State"

You can't have a well regulated militia without soldiers, and soldiers need to grow up. Therefore you needed childcare.
