My friend blew up one me cause I dint sit next to him?

I have a guy friend. We often go to museum together and sight seeing in different cities on the weekends. So last time we went on a boat trip. Cause the boat was pretty much empty. I walked up to twp emtpy six-seaters across from eacg other. And was like "oh nice we both can sit on a side". So we can both watch out of the window comfotably. I noticed he was acting strange. But i was enjoying the boat ride and sight seeing. The last 20 minutes i asked if he wanted to go sit outside. He was like " yea you can go" i kinda felt something was off, but i thought he would also come sit outside, but he didn't. When the ride was alsmost finished he came outside and immediatly started making a fight. Saying" he better couldve have came alone. And i should go back hoke by train if i dont want to sit next to him. It was so embarrasing. He was like " yea everybody on the boat thinks we are fighting cause you dont sit next to me. And everybody is looking at us. I was shocked. The whole boat ride i was tryibg to talk to him but he was being short with me. And now he was really making a fight infront of everyone. We kept on fighting when we went off the boat. He was like "yeah i noticed you dont sit next to me but across from me when we eat. I just find it more logical to sit across, so you can sit eat and talk to each other. He said its better if we dont hang out anymore. I know he had/has a crush on me. Was i wrong? I think he really overreacted as a friend and is pushing me to get closer to him just because he like me. I never had this with other friends.
