Do you think it’s cruel and evil to put parents in a nursing home?

Nursing homes get a bad rap sometimes, but many of them are great places where older persons can hang out with people their own age, dealing with their same health issues, with activities catered to their age bracket.

Many people would love to have the opportunity to have a parent at home, and it's fine and doable if they can take care of themselves for the most part, do not require medical care during the day, or are mentally fit, but you, as their child still have to work, still have to take care of your kids if you have them, and that may not always be feasible for them to stay with you and be able to get the care they need. Those with dementia, for example, require a lot of care and cannot be left alone.

Here IS what is cruel. Not doing your research to make sure that nursing home is on the up and up, dumping a parent off and never seeing them or only rarely visiting them, not checking in with them to see if they are being treated in a decent manner.

Not at all. Nursing homes have staff that help residents with everyday activities. They also have medical personnel who can keep track of their medications, keep them hydrated (lack of enough hydration can cause more memory problems), and administer IV medications. They provide activities geared to each resident, making life enjoyable for them. They often have doctors that come in and help with things there instead of having to get non-mobile patients to clinics and hospitals. And they often have access to vehicles that can transport patients when they do need deeper medical care, like wheelchair transport.

Of course, caretakers need to deeply research available nursing homes to ensure the patients are getting the best ones for their needs.

I think everybody has their own thing going on that for me

I promised my mom that I would never take her to a home and that she could die in my house she didn't want to die alone and I understood that

I looked at it like this she was in my life for the first 16 years so I made it a point to make her last part of her life happy with no stress and that's what I did

No it's not. Your parents didn'd ask for your consent to forver care for them in your house when you're grown up before they decided to put you in this world. So it's fair. And after all: a professional will probably do a better job than you can.

I won't judge anybody if they it but I'd never do that to my parents. I've heard too many horror stories about nursing homes
