When it comes to the deaths of your family members, how do you feel?

I lost my younger brother at 13 a month before my 14th birthday.. I was in shock for a day or two my friends and family were pissing me off because I was laying in my bed and they kept coming in my room telling me to come downstairs and that I should be with family but I just wanted to be alone. His death hurt me a lot and took me years to get over, I kind of had to grieve him alone because my parents were drinking everyday and my sister left home because she couldn't deal with our parents and she was off getting high with her friends all the time.. I just spent most my time alone in my room. Then my grandma died at 18.. and I guess that didn't effect me much, then my moms cousin who was really close to us, then some friends but none ever hit me like my brothers death. I guess I am kind of numb to death all together now.

Depends on the family member. I’ve lost 4 so far, great grandparents and both of my granddads. I was only really close with one of them, and I visit his grave yearly. I was very upset when he died, but thankful at the same time, as he’d been suffering for a while and it was his time to go.

Im expecting to lose my grandmother in the next 5 or so years, and that’ll really hurt as she’s a big part of my life.

I'm at the age that death is expected. If I get a text from an old. Friend or family member that I don't talk to often I dread opening them up to let me know who died this week. Last week my best friend died. It hurt but I think I'm mostly numb to death now. I went to send him a text forgetting he was dead last night. That made me tear up a little. Understanding that he was gone.

I’ve lost my parents, that’s the way of the world. Also aunts, uncles and best friends. I was sad at the time because I was very close to all of them. You never get over it (despite what people say), you learn to live with it, and move on. Yes, I’m happy now, because I can look back at all the good times.

I've lost both parents, a set of grandparents, and my very beloved little maternal grandmother whose husband passed before my brother and I were born. With both my paternal grandparents, there was a tinge of anger. With my dad mostly sadness mixed with some regret. With my mom, relief and anger and sadness and with my grandmother a sweet sadness. With my mom there was also this deep dark pit of realizing you can't ever fix anything, make it right again once they are gone. No matter how much you want to, you can't. I don't exactly remember the days they died. But I do remember my parents' and grandmother's birthday. Every year I make their favorite cake and celebrate their lives and my love for them. Sometimes other people are there with me, sometimes I just do it on my own... candles, song and all. And I choose to remember all of the good things.

I lost both my parents who raised me (foster) from age 4. My mom when I was 13 and dad when I was 19. It shaped my entire life for better and for worse. It's been incredibly hard especially with my dad considering I wasn't able to contact him after my mom died until I was 18 at which point I found out he was already dying. I spent over a year spending as much time with him as I possibly could to try make up for lost time.

Really sad. The only reason I can think of to be happy when close family dies is inheritance, and even then I’d hope you’d still be sad (kind of like a silver lining in the clouds).
