What's so disappointing about a man's first child being a girl?

Long ago, the ultrasounds weren't as upgraded as nowadays. They couldn't determine my gender because of my position. The baby shower gifts were white and yellow. I was nameless and referred to as the baby. Meanwhile my father kept focusing that it's going to be a boy that would carry out the family name, the heir, etc. He didn't think about any girl names, just for a boy.

Then in the final moment when mom gave birth, my dad looked at the family member with a disappointing expression. He asked to step out for a bit. Then came out and requested to hold me and had a long private moment.

32 years later, I'm 6 pregnant now and it's a boy. He kept wishing his first grandchild were a boy. He got the wish of a first born (well grandchild this time) being a boy. Unlike my father, my husband and I thought about names for both genders from the beginning. But seriously what's so bad with a man's first child being a daughter?

Exactly. Every girl is different too. I never liked make-up too much and actually preferred watching wrestling with dad as a kid over playing tea party, lol.

There is nothing disappointing about having a girl! Your father was not the norm. Most fathers would be equally thrilled with either a boy or a girl.

This indeed. Before my husband and I knew our baby's gender, we thought about names for both a boy and a girl. It's sad to be just focusing on names for one gender and then get the surprise when it's the other gender and you didn't even think of a name at all for that gender.

Nothing at all, I would actually prefer to have a daughter first.

That's cool. Unlike my father, when my husband and I didn't know the gender of our name... we thought about names for both genders. We were focusing on having a healthy, strong baby. That's what counts.

Its normal for people hope for a child of the same gender but get over it quickly the first time they hold their baby. At the end of the day everyone just wants their kid to be healthy.

Interesting. When I was asked in the beginning what gender I prefer, I just replied that it didn't matter. I just wanted a healthy, strong baby.

Well it's easier to bond when you have shared interests. Dads like to throw a ball around with their kid, go fishing, teach him how to ride a hike etc and moms wants to have a girls day with their daughter and whatever women do lol

Yet at times, you can still have a common interest with the opposite sex child too. For instance I used to watch wrestling marches as a kid with dad. We still had a great time. I wasn't too much into jewels nor make-up lol.

yeah it shouldn't be. The important part should be focusing on the baby being healthy and strong.
