What would you do if a 37 yo female showed up at your 17 yo son's event?

I met Matt at a Sporting Goods store. Every time I go there we hit it off and we could talk for hours. I told him about my son and they've exchanged numbers and play online games together but they haven't actually hung out physically yet. When Matt gave me his number it was for my son but he also said I could have his number. I didn't think anything of it. Fast forward a few months and I notice he stops what he's doing to talk to me every time. He is always so eager to talk to me. I'm starting to notice other employees looking at us when he's talking to me. It's not like they look and then turn away. They keep staring. FFW again to Thursday and he invited me to an event where he'll be presenting his science project. I guess everyone knows everyone at that event. I would like to show my support but I'm in my late 30s. I asked my friend who knows his parents and she said the event is open to the public. Still... I'd be asking questions if some random lady who knows your son shows up. I haven't met his parents and if his event doesn't fall during spring break then I can't take my kids. How would you deal with this? I'm thinking of just telling I can't go.
