I purchased a mini Bernedoodle off of Craigslist for $800. He was so happy go lucky, charming, sweet, funny. He never bite me. However, my toy poodles were not fond him. They were pretty stressed about him. My other two male standard poodles absolutely loved him. He was fun to take out in public. Very well behaved. He wanted to say hi to everyone. He always wanted to lean against me and cuddle with me. He is a great watch dog. He was so happy with me. I was worried about my toy poodles stress, so I gave him for free to a family I thought were really nice people. However, they told me the Bernedoodle has been biting them and also very anxious and nervous. They said he is also fighting with their male standard poodle. This is so out of character for him. They have complained to me about him and all the trauma he has put them through. I tried to get him back a couple days ago but she held him hostage and is demanding $500 for him. Her comment was like no I am not driving all that way and giving him to you for free. You can buy him back for the amount I would have gotten for selling him. So I am planning to buy the dog back. For $500. For a dog I gave away for free. I have been so worried about him, I’m also worried about my safety meeting this person. It’s at a public location but still. I don’t have a lot of money actually. It’s a huge sacrifice. I hope I’m making the right choice. I have been traumatized myself being worried about him. The Bernedoodle came from a very reputable breeder and is so sweet. I feel upset and angry for being taken advantage of. I shouldn’t have given him away for free. What does everyone think? Pay the $500 and get him back? I also fear he won’t be the same dog as I don’t know what has happened to him there. It’s out of character for him to bite. His original owners were elderly people and he has been around kids and people of all ages. I think it’s the people and not him. I am very nervous. The have had him for 2 weeks.

Oh man, that's a really tough situation. I can totally understand why you're feeling so worried and anxious about the Bernedoodle. It sounds like you really bonded with him and it's heartbreaking to hear he's not doing well with the new family.
I think you're right to be concerned about meeting up with these people to get him back. Even though it's in a public place, it's still a sketchy situation where they're trying to take advantage of you. The fact that they're demanding $500 for a dog you gave them for free is really messed up.
At the same time, I can see why you feel so strongly about getting him back. He sounds like such a sweet, well-behaved dog, and it's not fair that he's going through this trauma. Plus, you must be so worried about what's happening to him with this new family.
If I were you, I'd try to find a way to get him back without having to pay the $500. Maybe see if you can take him for a "trial run" or something, so you don't have to hand over the cash right away. Or see if there's any way you can get the authorities involved, since it sounds like they're basically holding him hostage.
I know it's a huge financial sacrifice, but I think if you really feel in your gut that this is the right thing to do, it might be worth it. Just make sure you take all the precautions to keep yourself safe when meeting up with them.
Wishing you all the best with this situation. I hope you're able to get your sweet Bernedoodle back home where he belongs. Stay strong, and don't let these people take advantage of you. You've got this!
Thank you! I drove all the way to South Carolina to get him back and it was a four hour drive and they texted and said they decided I needed to pay them for his return. So I had to drive all the home. I pulled over crying. It felt like the end of the world. We are supposed to meet at a Cracker Barrel, I’m going to get there early call the police let them know and also let management know if they can keep an eye on us and meet on the front. I feel like I have to play nice and sweet until he’s home. I should have just worked with him and the toy poodles. It is strange he got along perfectly with my male standard poodles but fighting with theirs. And they blame him. One of my male standards also does not like all male dogs. He is picky. The fact that he loved the bernedoodle speaks volumes. We have all missed him so much. One of my friends also said the same thing about seeing this lady again. She had also said some really creepy things about demonic influence and things like that so I don’t think she well. She seemed so nice before. Her personality changes. She goes from sweet to mean to sweet again. If she’s this way with me I’m sure she has been this way with Benji.
Oh man, that sounds like such an incredibly stressful and heartbreaking situation. I can't believe those people are being so manipulative and unreasonable, making you drive all the way there just to hold your dog for ransom. That's so messed up.
I'm really worried for your safety, especially with the way this woman has been acting. Calling the police and getting Cracker Barrel management involved is definitely the smart move. You're right to be cautious and play nice with her until you can get your pup home safely.
I can only imagine how devastated and frustrated you must feel, having to turn around and drive all the way home without Benji. That must have been just gut-wrenching. But I'm really proud of you for not giving in to their demands - you shouldn't have to pay them extra for a dog you originally gave them for free.
It's so strange that Benji was getting along so well with your male standard poodles but not their dog. That definitely seems like more of an issue with their dog or the environment he's in, not Benji himself. The fact that he was so happy and well-behaved with you speaks volumes.
I really hope everything goes smoothly at the Cracker Barrel and you're able to get Benji back without any issues. Just stay alert, keep those authorities in the loop, and don't let these people take advantage of you anymore. You've got this girl! Benji is going to be so happy to be back home with you. Wishing you the very best of luck!
Why don't you do the trip then, if they aren't doing the trip then that's the excuse they gave right out the window, if there's no recorded evidence of the conversation then you can set them up, print papers of the dog and put them around everywhere, then call police and say that you were looking for your lost dog and that these mean people are charging you to sell you your dog back, if you have any legal papers of the dog, it's wraps
I got him back but made me pay $800. I wish I had gotten the police involved. I called beforehand and to check in if I didn’t call back in 15 mins something was wrong but wish I had a policemen meet me there to get the dog back for free
You probably should have gotten the police involved but at least now you can put all that behind you and just move on, you got your dog back, after all you can't put a price on it.
I hope it's not the case but maybe he got aggressive after you let him go. That's what I've seen. Pets get violent and aggressive when their parents give them up.
However, I hope the lady ain't making this all up just to make some monetary profit out of it.
I’m otw to get him now
Hope it all goes well
I got him back but she made me pay $800 and he is sweet with me and the other dogs. I got him back in March, she was user /abuser
Oh that's really great 😃 Loved hearing the update and that he's in safe and loving hands now 💕 I hope she doesn't get any other pet.
