Is it Wrong to Wear a Thong to A Family Pool Party?

My big sister threw a July 4th backyard pool party, and I came with my girlfriend. The problem was my girlfriend chose to wear a thong-style bikini. Everyone seemed cool about it, except sis. She took my girlfriend aside and scolded her for her "inappropriate attire," saying she ought to be mindful of the fact that there were children running around, as well as her husband and teenage sons.

Well, my girlfriend wasn't having it. She tells my sister, hey, there's no reason to be "ashamed of having a mom body," and it was nobody's fault if her husband can't keep his eyes where they belong. And it went downhill from there. Now my girlfriend is mad at ME, saying I let my sister disrespect her. And my sister called to tell me not to bother bringing that "trailer trash" back to her house. Who is right? More importantly, how can I mend fences?

The girlfriend was wrong to dress like that in a family environment. Best not to tell her that though. To try and fix things, apologize to your girlfriend about the way she was treated. And don’t invite her to your sister’s house again. Try to keep the two of them separated from now on, since they’re having problems getting along.

It’s more important to have the relationship be between you and the girlfriend instead of bringing extra people into it, even if they are your relatives. Maybe spending time with your family is not so important, especially since it’s most likely early in the relationship.

I think most people would agree w your sister tbh, based on how you described the situation, the number one thing that stands out to me is that there are kids present, and my opinion is, I do not care if anybody including kids see my butt, however those kids have parents and they will have their own opinions and what is the point of risking offending them? As for the mom bod part I would not have gone there! JMO!

I think its perfectly fine to wear a thong to a family pool party. Everyone who's going "but the kids" have obviously never been around kids at a pool... they could care less what you're wearing. Its not going to scar them for life, its not going to corrupt them. Also, I just don't even care if I see butt cheek. Everything "important" is still covered. People should wear what they want, and other people should let people wear what they want.

Apologize to your girlfriend. Tell her you were caught unprepared and that she's right about your sister. Tell your sister to go F herself, that was totally unacceptable.
