My husband said to my kids “Don’t ever marry a woman like your mother” in the middle of an argument… he says it often?

He was playing with Xbox with the kids, he lost so he want happy, when they were done we were ready to watch a movie but we couldn’t find the remote for the fan, he was agitated about it too and yelling about it while we were looking for it, I told him to stop yelling, we were carry on with the kids about him losing to them and he got upset and said: “F u all” my kids are under 13 yo so I told him not to disrespect the boys like that, we are not doing nothing to him and to remember that the way he treats people is how he will be treated, then he proceeds to to say it again and that he hates this house! I told him; “You said FU to us, then FU too, how do you like it?” He called me low class and then proceeded to say that to the kids, I ended movie night, I told the kids we are not going to watch a movie under this circumstances and left the room, he kept saying things to me and I just left and the kids went to bed.
This is not the first time he says this to my kids about me and it makes me feel embarrassed and sad, I want to be the best for my kids but with their dad badmouth me every chance he gets it’s making it difficult! He has a very short temper, call me all the names you want, but not to our kids or in front of them, I will defend them.
Did I screw up?
