Does my friend sound like an asshole?

He works at a grocery store. Customers order groceries online. He gathers the groceries and brings them out to the customers. He's the manager of the department. So he told me that on Sunday, the system in his department crashed, and he had to deal with it because his boss was gone. IT finally fixed it, but there were some customers waiting in the parking lot for 2 hours. NY friend told me he broke down and cried because he was so stressed out. A 19 year old had started working in my friends department, and they were working with eatchother all day. My friend told me that he made this 19 year old go out and apologize to the customers. The reason was because he would probably cry if he had to do it. He put an "lol" at the end of the sentence. I dont think its funny. He's the manager. He should have went and apologized to the customers. Not make the new kid do it. What do you think?

I think you’re right. Give him some grace though, yeah? Is he new to being a manager? I feel for the poor guy. Been there. Done that. Retail is especially stressful, restaurant industry too. If I was a customer, I wouldn’t be waiting two hours for an order though. I would request a refund. Anyway, hope your friend is doing okay. A situation like that would def have me questioning quitting, lol. But I guess what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger?
