What would drive a mother, hell any parent to bully their son or daughter relentlessly?

There is a documentary on NETFLIX called "unknown number: the high school catfish" where this young girl and young guy that were getting relentlessly bullied by unknown numbers.

TLDR it turns out the young girls mother was the one bullying both her and her boyfriend.

My question is why in the fuck would any parent, never mind gender, do that to their kids and their kids significant other?

Perhaps having a baby was not planned and it interrupted the parent's anticipated idyllic youth, causing resentment.

In my family, after I was born, my father decided that he did not want to be married to my mother. But he felt obligated to stay until the youngest (me) finished high school. My mother knew that was his plan and, six years after I was born, gave birth to my younger brother, extending his "prison sentence" by an additional six years. My father deeply resented my younger brother and was unusually harsh on him as he hot older.

That documentary pissed me off because they swept the fact that she's a pedo under the rug. It was obvious she was in love with the kid and was jealous of her daughter as a result.

I saw this... and it is terribly disturbing. The way she spoke in text had me right away thinking it was an adult from a different generation.

She lost her job and I think was a very unhinged very nosy mom and nothing meaningful to do homemaker. Her daughter was growing up and possibly she could not accept it. I think some moms have a competition complex and want to be with the teen daughters boyfriend subconsciously or consciously.

I haven’t seen the show, but have often wondered the same thing. My mother was checking a box when she had 1.5 kids. She was a relentlessly mean. I think what saved me was all the encouragement I received from other adults. As a child, other adults would tell me that my mother was wrong and speak words of encouragement. That went a very long way in teaching me that my mother was the one with the problems and it wasn’t my fault.

I saw that documentary and I felt so bad for the daughter 😢 What her mother did was horrible!! She definitely has issues

I watched that and it was brutal what that mom did to her daughter and boyfriend. The dad seems decent and I think that's the only thing saving the daughter.

Maybe.. Even after going to prison, she still blames everyone but her self. Frankly she reminds me of my own mother, she is very much like her. Nothing is ever her fault it's everyone else doing things to her.

Hell she even blames the school for not doing enough to find the bully, like when it's revealed it was her doing it, I was like why the hell would you say that when it was you all along.

If you get the chance to watch the documentary, she's essentially in love with the daughters boyfriend too, who at the time was 14, and does some very weird things to him.

Now that she's out she's trying to reconnect with her daughter, and she's having none of it.

It feels very much like a weird form of munchausen by proxy.

I just finished it.. She gives a bullshit sob story about having been raped as a child and not wanting her daughter to go through that.. And that's the reason she bullied her daughter.. Again bullshit. She also acted like she was in love with her daughter's boyfriend. Some of her behavior around him is just disgusting.. He wws 14 and she was in her late 30's.

So yeah jealousy combined with her pedophilic tendencies.
