Generally speaking is raising a son or daughter more challenging?

Assuming all else is equal where they get decent grades, stay out of most trouble, respect their parents, etc which gender is more challenging to raise

I guess it would depend on the culture where you live. Like literally all else being equal, the they would be the same.

But if you live somewhere that for example doesn't accommodate periods, then it will cost you extra money per month once she hits that age. If there is not very good Healthcare for women's issues in your area, that could be a problem if she has any sort of sickness or injury growing up. They could dismiss her symptoms out of ignorance or mysoginy and she could suffer as a result. No parent wants to see their child suffer.

On the other hand, if you live somewhere that has a lot of gang violence or police activity, that is usually something that effects boys more. They are more likely to be pulled into crimes and more likely to be targeted by police—and this can be worse depending on other factors too. Also, if there are no good schools in your area, it will likely be harder for your son to navigate the education system. Boys don't do as well in underfunded schools that can't offer full guidance and support, so you will likely have to spend extra time to make sure he has what he needs to do well.

Often, there are multiple different factors in the environment that make boys and girls lives harder. Each parent also has unique skills and constraints, such as work hours and their own education level, that could make certain issues much more challenging to deal with than others. For example a parent who works evening shift will have a hard time helping their boy with studies, and a parent who is poor will have a hard time affording to get a second opinion if their girl's pain is dismissed by a doctor. So it's a very complex question. Lol...

I have both (son is 12 and daughter is 10), I'd say up to this point, raising our son has been way harder. Now that may change when they are both teens (especially once she hits puberty), but for now, our son is the difficult one while our daughter is kind and caring and generally listens when we tell her what to do.

I think it's more challenging to raise a son, because boys usually don't listen to what you tell them to do, or not to do (of course there are exceptions, I'm one of them).

Daughters usually listen to their parents (but there are exceptions in here too, some girls are really rebellious).
