Second cousins share, on average, about 3.125% of their DNA

In 2024 my dad’s uncle died and my grandfather’s brother died at the age of 89. My dad was the one who told me about his passing. I have actually met my dad’s uncle before but only about twice.

I read on his Obituary that he has 8 grandchildren. I think these would be considered my second counsins but I have never met any of them before.

My dad and I didn’t go to his funeral he lives in a different state but I googled his Obituary online.

A second cousin is someone who shares your great-grandparents but not your grandparents. You and your second cousins are the children of your parents' first cousins.

I'm sure I prolly have met some. We have a big , weekend long family reunion every summer but I don't even remember half the names of half my cousins or if they're 1st, 2nd or 3rd or in-laws or outlaws. 🤣
