Usually, but not always. In general, men are taller than women, but that's not always guaranteed within a family.

Inherited genetic traits can come from a person's parents, grandparents, etc, and some of those traits are either dominant or recessive. Without going too deep into genetics, it is entirely possible for daughters to be taller than their fathers, and sons to be shorter than their mothers.

I am taller than both my parents by several inches in fact. It's an ongoing joke that I am the mailman's kid. Overall though it might be true with some exceptions like myself.
