I think a parent's job is to be supportive. If a person is ugly, they're gonna have enough people hurting their feelings throughout their lives. Their parent should just keep quiet in that situation and help their child find solutions to whatever obstacles they face.
Because it would be cruel to tell anyone, especially one's child "Sorry, you aren't attractive."
It is due to instinct, protection, and love. What looks like “lying” from the outside is often something much more layered.
