Is it appropriate to give gifts to comfort a friend with a dying grandparent?

My guy friend and I have bought our girl friend, who’s grandpa is dying, a sympathy card, a crystal flower and an aquamarine pendant to cheer her up, nicely wrapped in a cute carry bag. Is this appropriate?

We’re both paying for everything together and my other friends usually do this when a pet or relative is dead or dying.

In moments like that, it’s not really about the gift, it’s about showing you care and that they’re not alone.

Even something small, paired with a sincere message, can mean a lot more than trying to ‘fix’ the situation.

You can't fix the grandpa dying and I think the best thing is to give quiet sympathy understanding and acknowledgement of your girlfriend's grieving.
