10 tips to save money on Makeup!
1. Makeup dupes
There are plenty of cheaper makeup dupes to the expensive brands out there. All you have to do is a quick google search, and there are plenty of reviews and suggestions out there. I have found that some of the cheaper brands like Wet n Wild, Elf, and Makeup Revolution are far superior to some of the pricey brands out there.
2. Sample bonuses
In my local drugstore there are some great sales events going on, every once in a while. For instance spend $50 and get a free sample bag of 20 samples to try. There were mascaras, foundation, fragrances, and even skin care to try out. Some of the brands were highly expensive so it was worth it for me to try out things that I usually wouldn't be able to afford, and see if they are worth the hefty price tag.
3. Sales
Sales happen all the time! Twice a year at Sephora, major sale events at drug stores. Just keep an eye out, and save up for something that you really want.
4. Point systems
Most places like Ulta and Sephora have some sort of point systems that allow you to accumulate points everytime you purchase something. In turn you can redeem the points for samples or money towards you next purchase!
5. Get creative
Youtube is a wonderful place to learn how to make your own makeup, skincare, hair care etc. For instance I made my own highlighter by taking an old eyeshadow pigment and pressing it together with alcohol. It saved me $50 CAD, in buying the Tarte one I wanted from Sephora.
6. Set a budget
Setting a budget is key. Tell yourself that you're only allowed to spend a certain amount of money on makeup, and stick to it.
7. Research before you buy
Read reviews and look at swatches before you buy. This will help you see if the product you're gonna splurge on is worth it! Is it for your skin type? Is it long lasting? Pigemented?
8. Kijiji
Kijiji is a great place to find makeup. If you don't mind using alcohol to sanitize makeup, you can really find some great deals on there.
9. Ask for samples
You're entitled to try before you buy, so go ahead and try it out before spending a fortune. It will save your bank account from taking a hit.
10. Find a store with a great refund policy
If you're not sure whether what you're buying is worth it, make sure that you purchase the product from a store that has a good refund policy. It really sucks to be stuck with a product that doesn't work for you, that you can't return.
