Tattoo Styles: Part 1

Zendrya

So I thought I would do a few MyTakes about tattoo styles and what makes a style that style. Hopefully this little series will help people who want to start getting tattoos (or for people who already have tattoos but want to start planning future pieces better) find their favourite style(s) so they can communicate their ideas better with a tattoo artist or to help plan sleeves, etc.

Traditional

Tattoo Styles: Part 1

Traditional tattoos are made with solid black outlines, a limited colour palette, they are less detailed but the little detail that is there is impeccable. If you are looking for a tattoo that you know won't go out of "fashion" and stand the test of time this style is for you. They are often tattoos of flowers, skulls, daggers, women's heads but you can incorporate it in anything you want.

Neo-traditional

Tattoo Styles: Part 1

So much like traditional tattoos you get that solid black outline but neo-traditional tattoos are more experimental with colour and they tend to have a lot more detail than the traditional tattoos. You may also find that neo-traditional tattoos merge different styles of tattoos together.

New-School (nu-skool)

Tattoo Styles: Part 1

New-School tattoos are more cartoon-like and are influenced by hip hop and graffiti artistic techniques. You often see bright colours, exaggerated dimensions and features, and bubble-like designs. You will often see these done with animal tattoos and popular pop culture icons.

I'll do another 3 styles next week. If you have any specific styles you want me to write about make sure to leave it in the comments
