WHAT IS COSPLAY?

Cosplay, or "Costume Play", is a performance art that began as dress up performances in the Japanese style of Manga and Anime but has since transitioned into other characters as well, such as Alice in Wonderland, Little Red Riding Hood, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman, Jessica Rabbit and many others.

Cosplay characters can be seen in large numbers at most Anime conventions around the world.

Cosplay started out as specifically known figures from movies, plays, gaming, comics/cartoons or even story book characters. Although Cosplay characters were not originally meant to be generic costume characters, like a maid or a witch, it has gradually morphed into that as well.

WHY I LOVE COSPLAY

Cosplay can be stylish, innocent or sexy and a lot of fun!

There is a character for every mood. Are you in an innocent mood - be Little Red Ridding Hood or Alice in Wonderland. Are you in an awnry mood - be Harley Quinn or Kitana Mortal Kombat Ninja. Do you want to be more dainty - how about Mini Mouse or Snow White. And let's not forget sexy, of course - Jessica Rabbit or Slave Leia.

There is a character for everyone, both young and not as young!

Although you can purchase cosplay costumes, many, if not most, are made from scratch out of patterns, or not, and pieced together from various costume pieces and materials, thus many are very unique and one-of-a-kind.

When I was younger, I'd repeatedly visit the Comic-Con in San Diego and the Anime Expo in Los Angeles. However, since I moved out of the USA, I discovered that the Cosplay Mania here in the Philippines, the Cosplay Festival in Singapore and the Comiket in Japan are absolutely fun to attend.

These photos look nice, and I generally like the thing, but maybe I'm too conservative but I perceive cosplayers as actors in stage clothes, and I don't want to touch a girl wearing, say, this Freddie or LRRH costume, because it looks like she will lose her props.

I used to like cosplay... I used to like Halloween too and twitch.
Why everything has to be sexualised to the point of destruction and even destruction of the themes of the source material I don't know.
The MGTOW in me says it's because women can't tolerate something in a man's life not being oriented around them. The libertarian in me says it's because corporation culture needs to find the most effective tools to monetize every environment.

It's just so depressing.

Cosplay can be fun and the dedicated participants are great, but it is FULL of weirdos too. Best to do anything related to cosplay with a group of friends.

All the costumes were of hot female girls. You could cosplay as anything, male or female. Females don't always have to dress erotically

Yeah, I was a pretty disappointed with the original post to be honest, since it didn't even seem remotely self-aware. I love a legitimately good cosplay so most of these make me want to die.

Same, I don't have the body to pull any of those costumes off. I feel like it could've been a better article if there was more diversity among the photos, because then I could personally appreciate it more. I don't wanna wear a bra and panties out in public with a cape, because then I'd feel extra exposed and uncomfortable, especially sense I am self-conscious. And how uncomfortable would it be, honestly? Wouldn't you get cold/hot? And honestly how are vaginas not popping out everywhere? xD
