What is STEAMPUNK?

"Steampunk is a retro-futuristic sub-genre of science fiction or science fantasy that incorporates technology and aesthetic designs inspired by 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery.

Although its literary origins are sometimes associated with the cyberpunk genre, steampunk works are often set in an alternative history of the 19th century British Victorian era or the American "Wild West", in a future during which steam power has maintained mainstream usage, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power."

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT COSPLAY!

WHY I TOTALLY LOVE STEAMPUNK

First, and nearly foremost, because it is sexy, and I LOVE SEXY!

Can we hurry it up a little? ...I want to get back to something more productive

We'll just let that part speak for itself

Second, because it involves mechanical things, including trains and airships, which STEAMPUNK is also all about.

This is REAL Quantum Mechanics!

Now I am actually not into mechanical things whatsoever, and will call the nearest male to come help me if any problems with mechanical things arise. However, I think maybe that is why I like them in Steampunk, because it gives me the imaginary feeling of control over them that I don't have in real life ...kind of like female Super Hero fantasies have over things that might otherwise harm them in real life as well.

Because I am into "Classy" Sexy Art, which in my definition, exceeds mere sexy! ...YES! ...Now you've hit my Hot Button!

Thank you for this introduction to Steampunk, Laurie. I totally get it.
I really like fantasy Victorian technology - Jules Vern stuff - time machines, lighter than air ships, submarines, rocket ships. Mechanical, not electronic. The Victorian era was really into detailed aesthetics, too.
Steampunk fashion, especially for women is hot. Bodices, bare thighs, bad ass boots, Victorian era hats, layered skirts and overcoats. A combination of sophistication with shabbiness. A clutter of frills, fabrics, leather, complex accoutrements and devices. Practically speaking, some of it looks really warm, heavy and uncomfortable, but it looks cool.
I'm stuck by the way Steampunk fashion sort of combines barbarian elements (leather buckles and love of detail) with Victorian era fashion and technology.
The genre also embodies that confident Victorian air that man can conquer anything by intellect and sheer will power.

Nice presentation. I always did like Sci-Fi and can appreciate some of the ingenuity that goes into these outfits. Not to mention Victorian cleavage! Top hats, goggle and corsets are the prerequisites for the gals, apparently, with a side order of compasses, buckles, artificial limbs and leather! Very nice post!

Oh yeah i love Steampunk. The whole idea. It's why I like playing Syberia on my xbox. It has a lot of this type of scfi.

Steam is so cheap if you wait to get something on sale. I have repurchased old games on steam that I had on cd/dvd because its nice to just be able to access everything electronically

Steampunk is such a fun genre, I love it! Some of my favorite steam punks that stick out are wild wild west with will Smith, howls moving castle and mortal engines. But there are so many of them!

I like steampunk too , I have a few books on it I bought from amazon and eBay several years ago, the goggles are very popular, I wanted to build a steampunk lamp but never got around to it but will definitely someday
