Actually, it's the other way around. Men have the choice of basically the same suit over and over again, with just a few variations in color (black, navy, grays, maybe a beige), with the same basic shirt in a few different colors, and just a couple of styles of shoes. Very boring.
Women, on the other hand, have a seemingly endless array of choices -- skirtsuits, pantsuits, dresses; not to mention shoe styles -- flats, heels, wedges, sandals, strapless, strappy (like a Mary Jane or a slingback), different heel heights, plain shoes, some that have a buckle or a cute bow or some other embellishment at the toebox. You can go forever, it seems, without duplicating an outfit, but men sometimes have to wear the same suit twice in the same week because we don't have all of those options.
Another 20 year old pink account thinking they know the world better than everyone else. Not surprising on here...
I'm trying to be nicer in 2023, so all I'll say is, I disagree with all of this here and have heard the overused stupid word "sexist" more times in the past five years than the entire rest of my life combined, and I'm sick of it.
You basically admitted at the bottom that the problem is self enforced (And there's no alternative to the pencil skirt aside from pants (which of course I couldn't wear). Most women create their own problems and then try to blame it on men. You can have your skirt and complain to men about how it's our fault, but we're never gonna treat you equal until you start acting equal.
Don't complain when your paycheck is %79 of the guy's.
In the US I believe it's illegal for a company to mandate different dress standards for men and women. Of course they can enforce such standards more subtly, by favoring women who dress to meet management's sexist preferences. Doing so makes them liable to an EEOC lawsuit.
Let me say this. Tights, shoes, etc. The offset is that I don't have to wear a tie like a guy does. Those don't look comfortable at all. in fact, it looks like they are being choked. Don't get me wrong. I like a tie on a guy. It looks sexy, but it does not look comfortable.
These are "expectations" you put on yourself. I work in a law firm, so I know something about a dress code. No where does it say you HAVE TO have several different outfits, business suits... whatever you want to call them. You can wear the same thing everyday if you choose. As long as it's within the code, a code BOTH genders have to abide by.
I do remember watching something on TV where women were expected to dress in a certain way at work, or they were asked to leave as they didn’t fit the required image. They were expected to wear skirts, along with heels of a certain length and low heels and flats were not permitted. To me, that’s blatantly wrong. You can be professional and smart in a tailored trouser suit or flat shoes.
This is why I'm glad I work for a company that is pretty informal with regard to dress code. I mean, I can even come in in jeans and a hoodie if I like.
I mean, you're in work for 8 hours a day. ain't got no time to be in a stuffy uptight professional wear for most of my life. Just would show that I'm in the wrong industry.
this is the dumbest thing i have ever heard. Women wear pants to work all the time. The professional standard has changed.
Stop influencing this feminism, women and men are equal now. Maybe even sexist against men. Men can't just make up stuff on women and go to jail for 5 years. Stop feeding the fire.
I don't see how!! Men have to wear a stuffy old suit & tie and look the same every day!! women can wear a suit & tie or a suit with skirt, or a dress and they never have to look the same way two days in a row!! Looks to me like it's the MEN that are getting the sexist end of the stick!!
I don’t understand why it’s sexist. Men should look like men and women should look like women. Like when men are required to wear ties and socks, women should be required to wear tights/pantyhose when she’s wearing a dress or skirt. Besides a dress/skirt with pantyhose looks great on women.

This seems kind of one sides and inaccurate to me. Both my parents have to dress professionally for their jobs and I don't think either one of them has it worse than the other. I'm pretty sure Dad would have something to say about the "relaxed by elegant shoes" he wears everyday, and how miserably hot he is wearing a suit and tie in an office full of ladies. I think it's just as bad for both tbh.

Do you actually think men have anything to do with expectations for what women wear in the workplace? Come on now. It is women who set those expectations, not men. Women live and die by the current fashion trends, and men don't give a shit as long as you keep it professional.
This is a problem created by women. Go figure it out and let us know what you decide.
Your post was about women's business fashion in general, not about your bosses. Women have more control over the comfort of their attire than men do. Women like you just love to play the victim and complain about how oppressed they are, but they are the victims of their own poor choices.
Yeah I guess women do influence each other in regard to what they wear, but men set that expectation just as much. We get treated worse if we dont put in an effort into looking pretty.
If you had to wear a heavy pencil skirt and tights in the middle of July I think you might understand a bit more. But you're a man and will never do that
If you had to wear a heavy suit and a necktie around your tight-necked button up shirt in an office full of women complaining about the thermostat all day long in the middle of July while you're dripping with sweat, I think you would stop whining so much.
The grass is not any greener on this side, and you are no more a "victim" than I am. Stop trying so hard to be one.
Having actually had to wear a tie as a server at a fancy restaurant, and working in a hot kitchen, I have actually been there. The tie wasn't fun but I'd take that over pantyhose, which is an itchy, uncomfortable, constricting fabric that feels like my legs are packed in like sausages. Along with the pencil skirt, which is basically like tying rope around your knees, it's not fun.
Interesting. My wife and I both work in a professional setting and have to wear all this stuff. We've had this same discussion about dress code, what each of us has to wear and all the (dis) comfort factors involved. She agreed I have it just as bad as her, all things considered. She has also commented on how women love to complain about it, even though they have it no worse than men, especially when considering she doesn't have to shave her face and neck every morning. She said she would much prefer to shave her legs, and I would too, having also had to do that as a competitive swimmer during high school.
In our home we keep the thermostat much warmer than is comfortable for me so that she is warm enough, but I can walk around in a tank top and shorts while she wears her sweater, and we're both fine. Unfortunately for us guys, that's not the case in the office, and everywhere I've worked the women have always controlled the thermostat. That sucks for us guys because we can't work in a tank top and shorts. You'll understand when you go through menopause because you'll have periodic hot flashes that are just like every working minute of a man's life.
The truth is that we both have it equally bad, but women do sure love to play the victim and complain about how much worse they have it. It's an interesting phenomenon.
My question to you is why would a woman NOT want to wear a skirt in the hot Florida/Texas/California summer time? Are you assuming every workplace has airconditioning in every room? Do you think it is comfortable for men to wear suits and full attire in summer temperatures? You girls don't know how lucky you are.
Luckily the office I work at, when I have to go in, is fairly relax in the dress code. Except for no shorts and no bare shoulders, women can wear pretty much what they went including yoga pants. A bunch even wear sundresses with a blazer or jacket with sandals. Me, like most men, wear jeans and a shirt or colored t-shirt.
Well the purpose of this is that it takes male and female carnal desires into play
it’s like those girls who say they can wear what they want but then say men gRape and objectify them
I’m not victim blaming here two wrongs don’t make a right and everyone has free will some people just use theirs to harm others and with that being the case women should take pre cautionary measures
You want to play stupid games, prepare to follow stupid rules. Most of the people at the top and the bottom of the social pyramid scheme dress however they feel like dressing; they have more freedom to do so.
No one enforces this harder than other women. Especially when they demand so much distinction. A matching outfit of any two is a declaration of war. Meanwhile, men can all have matching outfits, and be like: "Heh. That's awesome."

If it's ''sexist'' to you - just don't follow a 'code'... and pick a profession where you feel better.
Don't think that sexism (sic!) only goes in one direction. The silly habit of requiring to wear a necktie for example isn't any more reasonable.
I don’t understand why it’s sexist. Men should look like men and women should look like women. Like when men are required to wear ties and socks, women should be required to wear tights/pantyhose when she’s wearing a dress or skirt. Besides a dress/skirt with pantyhose looks great on women.

Men actually did set the policy. Literally all of my bosses were men.

Oh no... more evils and oppression and suffering for modern Western Feminists to fight against!!!
Tell us some more ways women should be bitter and angry and to wine further about what victims they are in the west?
Please do tell.
