Girls, Leggings as pants? What are the rules?

I believe that we have mostly accepted that leggings can be warn as pants. This is not just because I do it. It's because my friends do it and a lot of women I don't know do it also. Leggings are nearly a part of the soccer moms uniform. They are usually comfortable and never need ironing. My question isn't if they should be worn as pants but rather what should be worn under them. I bring this up because of an interesting conversation I had with a friend and I would like to know which of us is more correct. My belief is that any panty line if visible is still a panty line. It doesn't matter how far up it is. This led me to ponder if it is important at all. Seriously who actually cares if there are lines back there or not? It's not that simple though. I don't wear anything because when I did I wore regular underwear. No thong because I hate those things. The problem I had was worrying how everything looked back there. I knew that one side was higher than the other because my bum tends to munch on undies. I never have to worry about pant lines any more. I do however have to choose leggings much more carefully. My thought is why care about vpl. My question is what do you prefer? I don't know what to expect from this poll but I hope it isn't a thong. I hate those things. LOL

I believe in wearing a panty. Thats just me. I think however, the material that the leggings is made of plays a really big part. So cotton types look really passable with panties no matter the kind but the spandex are another story. I guess most women would option to go without any in that case but to be it feels wrong and looks bad.

Thank you for your comment. I appreciate your thoughts. I have never tried cotton leggings. I do believe how a person wears their leggings has as much to do with what they look like as what they wear under. I mean some girls seem to try to pull them up to their arm pits and then fold the waist band down. Never a good look. lol

@Lycralady sure np. thats so true. I feel comfortable in cotton leggings to a point where I won't worry because I know I have a great shape and they fir snug. I won't attempt the spandex unless its under a dress etc.

I totally understand your point. I really don't know why I feel as confident as I do wearing nylon or polyester leggings. I am sure going to try cotton. Winter will be here soon and cotton seems like it would be warmer. Thanks again.

I love leggings. I wear them pretty commonly as pants, though my shirt is typically long enough to cover the back side, but if it isn't, I don't really care. Thongs are the best to wear in my opinion since I don't like the vpl.

Thank you for your thoughts and input. I really like the look of a man's button up shirt worn over leggings. It covers the front and the bum. I still hate the thong though. I never got used to the feel of them. That is just my problem though.

No problem. And yep, I like wearing oversized flannels with them to cover everything up, gives off that effortless yet cute look. And I know, I used to hate thongs too but I got used to them, just took a little time.

I you don't wear panties you'll have to worry about a camel toe...
Also, i don't wear leggins that thin outside the gym, actually, not even there. There are leggins made of a thick material that can be worn on a daily basis. Yoga pants are not.

I love wearing leggings.
Medium or darker colors are usually safest, unless you are just in a teasing type mood where you know lots of boys will be around... lol
Camel-toe is also a cautionary factor :)

Yes, I think you are correct for the most part but it depends on the shape of the vulva, the tightness and fit of the nylon-lycra blend, whether you have panties on or not and the thickness and material of the panties are all a factor.
I have had it where it was not an issue when I first put them on, but as the day went along and I did a lot of activity in them, they did tend to ride up into places that I had not intended before I noticed it... lol
Gymshark really are made for active exterior wear so very unlikely they would ever be an issue with anything but some printing maybe. I like them too :)

Oh god yes I have had the same thing happen with some leggings. I put them on and they look great then everything goes sideways. I think it is worse because you can actually feel it happen. LOL Thank goodness I don't have panty lines never entered my mind at that point. I love Gymshark leggings. They never have failed me. I do wonder why you can see the care instructions through them. I think I discovered that with the first pair of flex leggings I wore.

Why don't you like thongs? I always wear leggings with thongs & I love thongs actually 😅 They're totally fine for me but I go for more expensive ones that are stretchy & soft. Don't really like going commando unless I'm wearing a maxi dress or something else that's very free and flowy.
Then again, I only really wear leggings to the gym though

I wore thongs for a short time. I don't like the feeling of wedgies and that is pretty much the way a thong feels to me. Yes I have tried expensive ones over the years. I just feel like there is a built in wedgie when I wear them.

I usally just wear a long shirt so I don't have to worry about panty line or camel toe. Then I usually wear thongs or lacy boyshort undies underneath.

I prefer jeggings all around.

but when I do wear leggings it's typically actual active wear and not yoga pants, so, yes, I do always wear underwear to the gym.
if i'm wearing yoga pants-a thong or something light is good. But tbh, they make thicker leggings/yoga pants now so you can pretty much wear anything you want. the ones in the first picture are way too small for her so the fabric is stretched thin.

I don't workout 29 days a week like some people claim to do but I am fit. I kind of wonder though if leggings looked more like regular pants would more people wear them? Would they still be leggings? I have seen flared leggings. They look like spandex meets bell bottoms. LOL

Just don’t wear leggings that are your skin tone or ones that are sheer when you bend over. Other than that, having visible panty lines or not is not that big an issue.

I don't class leggings as pants. If I wore leggings to work I would be fired for not following the dress code. Which say trouser/pants or a skirt for women and trouser/pants for guys. Also jeans don't count either.

I don't think I'd ever go without underwear for various reasons, one being I'd think people would notice. I don't wear leggings like that anyways but I have a pair and I wore seamless underwear with them

I love leggings and I don’t see why they can’t be worn as pants. I think it’s best to wear a thong just so you can avoid panty lines. Wearing no underwear just isn’t something I’m comfortable doing.

I won't argue with you about how great a good pair of jeans are or look. I would like to say that I do wear jeans quite regularly. I just don't see how wearing leggings is slutty or any kind of smut. Jeans are typically cheaper than a good pair of leggings. If you are talking about people that wear tights as pants then I totally agree with you.

But to your question, you should use underwear otherwise you'll get a huge camel toe.

If I am to be honest I believe in my case it comes from laziness. When I was in college I didn't have a lot of time to do laundry and prep my clothes. I wore sweatpants because they were so easy to care for. Pop them in the washer then dry and there good to go. I knew I looked frumpy and that bothered me. Leggings are about as easy to care for yet I feel more like a girl when I wear them.
