lmao i eat only shit and workout a lot (mostly chocolade, cookies every day) and i have shredded abs ( https://imgur.com/a/TUvnAnH ), this is not even my best form and take in mind that bad lighting and didn't flex them max. You need to take ur diet very very stricly and workout abs every day, once you hit "low body fat" you can basicly eat only shit food and workout and abs will remain there. I used to have really low body fat and very visible abs but its hard to progress with that low body fat, im fine with eating shit food every day , having progress and having "decent" visible abs.

i guess its not that hard to have abs, you just need to have motivation to workout. I'll rather do 1-2hour run/ab workout then watch movie and sleep xd

But a layer of fat over them, whether it's thin or wide, can surely reduce the impact and the damage more, it would protect the muscles in the first place, and damage on fat layers heals much faster than muscle damage
