I’m 15 and was thinking if I should switch back to tighty whities but I’m also nervous if I do because people say it’s childish

Wear whatever's comfortable for you, the only one who would care is someone who's undressing you. At that point they won't really care that much about what you're wearing anyway.

When I was young we only had a few choices; Y-Front jockey shorts, baggy boxer shorts, and a couple others. The boxers let everything dangle and the jockeys had a pouch. They both had a front fly opening. Girls had a several choices. Jockey, Hanes, Fruit of the Loom, and others made only men's styles. Now they have many more girl's styles. Don't know why that is the case. Traditional girl's lingerie manufacturers still only have girl's styles.

Later for years I wore fly-less briefs but didn't like the pouch as it put too much emphasis on the penis. Now my choice is Jockey Elancee (hipster or high cut). They provide adequate coverage with the pouch.

Women's panties have so many more nice choices. Why can't they have a wider crotch panel and a gusset that provides a greater frontal coverage?

Who cares what kind of underwear you wear? No one will see it anyway. I wear them and I don't think they are childish. Underwear is a personal choice.
