In most cases, for most women, longer hair generally looks better (up to a point), but it's also more work to maintain. And just because longer hair might look better doesn't necessarily mean that short hair looks bad.

Short straight hair I like more (also my boyfriend has short straight lmao)
I have long straight slightly wavy hair, and I wish it was a bit thicker and curlier or wavier. But it is what it is.

It’s less about the hair and more about the person. In general society, it’s usually about status symbol and character. If you have short hair but have baller attitude it’ll feel like bio-viagara for men.
