Okay, this one had to be answered in the name of better Franco-American diplomatic relations. This I offer as a man whose S/O chooses his wardrobe for him ever since that time he came within a whisker of ending up on Mr. Blackwell's List.

In a word, "Yes." It is a little hard to judge from the photograph, but your friend's outfit looks quite charming. It has an informal appeal - you would not wear it to a state dinner at the Élysée Palace, but for an informal day or evening out it is very appealing.

It conveys a sense of charm and an appreciation of a proper appearance but is not pretentious or, worse still, the kind of screaming slovenliness that passes for informality in most modern fashions.

Were my daughter older - she is only 6 right now, but as a teenager or young adult I would be pleased her dressed in the style this outfit here represents. So thumbs up to your friend!

Betcha she likes rap music, too! Oh well, no one's perfect.

Pass along my compliments. The other outfit is also really VERY striking. Not sure where in France you might wear it, but I think it would be an excellent business suit.

(Heck, my s/o won't even let me choose the kind of towel I wear out of the shower, so unimpressed is she in my fashion sense. That was a joke - almost!!)
