Generally tacky, in my opinion. I'm all for classics, but pearls are often fake, the wrong size for the face (too large or small), and tend to yellow with age. I almost never wear them.
Pearls, to me, are almost like someone searched "How to look classy" and then a bunch of articles came up saying to wear pearls. But looking classy is about the total presentation: Hair, skin, clothing fit, appropriateness, and quality. If any of those other areas are wrong, pearls will not fix it. I have seen so many older women wearing badly fitted clothes with pearls it's almost a stereotype at this point.
If one is going to look classy with pearls, the pearls must be real, not yellowed, and the proper size for the person. The outfit worn must be understated and fit perfectly, otherwise it's overdone because pearls can be such a strong statement piece.
Wow even in this opinion, you have almost the exact same opinion as me 😧 Similar minds Ms. Potts... similar minds
@HawkPerception Right? Glad you think so, too. :)
Tacky at least for women around my age because it's mostly old ladies and kids wearing them.

Depends on the person’s personality, the quality of the pearls ans how they’re set. (Every type of gemstone has its own energy.) Pearls also specifically have a very long history of social values associated with them (some positive, some negative.)
For example, asymmetrical freshwater pearls suit me — they brighten up the face and add a touch of dignity as well as a whimsical energy that counters the sometimes harsh realities of the workplace that I have to enforce during the day — but a traditional pearl necklace would look ridiculous on me right now because they’re so structured and cliche in my profession.
Meanwhile, some women can’t wear pearls at all. They clash with their personality.
I suspect that's not the kind of pearl necklace you're talking about.
It was an AI generated image, but it was pretty much what I was talking about.
It can be classy
