Shoes off or on inside the house?

When I was growing up, we nor any of our neighbors or relatives had a custom of removing shoes to go in the house. I never knew anyone who did.

Later in life, I was surprised to meet Asians and Middle Easterners who entered the house through their garage and left their shoes outside the door. I figured it was an ethnic custom.

I never saw a movie where people removed their shoes before entering a home.
Imagine a dinner party where the women removed their heels and the men in suits or tuxedos removed their polished shoes and walked around in socks.

My wife and I don't remove our shoes unless we plan to stay inside. And then, we only do it for comfort.

One of my biggest challenges when I visit people's homes other than my own is their shoe policy, since everybody has a different policy, sometimes their shoes do not fit me properly and I am worried I will break them if I slip in too hard, and I also worry I will patter too loud when I am walking around the house since, the shoe might not be as versatile as pants that can handle descending and ascending angles of movement better.

I take them off as soon as I get inside, but for others I don't give a shit, I don't have a rule, the floor will get cleaned anyway no matter what.

In my opinion, it's often thoughtful to take shoes off inside the house for comfort and cleanliness. It keeps floors cleaner, and it's just so cozy to walk around in socks or slippers! Of course, it also depends on personal preference and cultural habits. Whatever makes you and your guests feel at home is best. 😊

Im always on the go so they are on.. but when I retire they are coming off I vacuum every 2 days.
Because I know how much she's track in. G, she's tracking so much dirt. It is unreal you can look at the bottom of your shoes. You see nothing on there.

My shoes come off in the garage before I enter the house. I have shoe racks beside the door that leads into the house. With guests, I leave it up to them. Surprisingly, a lot of women and even some guys will notice I'm running around in my socks and pop their shoes off at the front door.

I have house shoes or “slippers” for around the house. They don’t go outside very often or very far. The shoes i wear out and about come off on a rug just inside the door. I observe whatever norms my hosts practice when i am in their house.

Shoes in the lobbies, stairs and hallways I don't mind. But if I am stepping in those rooms bare feet - your shoes better not have been there, or you're leaving the room through a window - head first.

Depends whether you want to contend with my stinky feet or not.😆 I say on. I roll my eyes at those people that tell you to take you shoes off. My attitude is you either want me over or you don't. If you do my shoes are staying on. I mean I'll honor your wishes that time. I'm just not coming back.

shoes off. The house, flooring and carpets stay cleaner that way. If you have an asphalt driveway you can track the oils into the house with your shoes, and it will leave a darker stain.
