Is saying that getting plastic surgery is "false advertising" blatant objectification?

To me, calling it "false advertising" implies that the person in a product that is trying to be sold. No, when people get plastic surgery it's to feel better about themselves.

You're right from one perspective. Insecurities usually drive plastic surgery, so you could say "to feel better".

But ironically, the act of feeling better merely due to appearances is the ultimate self objectification. ㅤ

i think the point is you are presenting yourself as something you are not. i don't really agree with the statement but i don't think the statement indicates objectification of people.

i think of it along the lines of, a person wears glasses to appear smart. it's false advertising because they are not... now again i don't necessarily agree with or take much stock in the sentiment of the phrase but i do not think it is necessarily objectifying

I think false advertising would be if a man stuffs his pants or woman stuffs her bra to look bigger. Or wears lots of "tummy flattening" gear or maybe in some opinions - lots of makeup snd fake eyelashes. Basically anything that enhances a person but has to be removed. Where plastic surgery enhances but - toy knowledge - is pretty permanent so I wouldn't say it's false advertising.

It's not false advertising, but, as @HawkPerception stated, it is self-objectification.

More importantly, it shows that the person internally views their body as an object to be enjoyed, which may point to other, even larger issues, such as low self-esteem and a poor understanding of the source of a person's value.

i do agree it kind of false adversary since sorry but objectification is not something you can avoid, people especially man goes after partners because they are attracted to their looks. who they are doesn't really plays a role until later.

but i think plastic surgery is much more real than make up and much more pereferable, because at least it is permanent unlike make up that is just paint.

Assuming someone would be serious about it, yeah I also think it is a form of objectification then, on top of hasty conclusions thrown in, since we don't know in advance the motives behind such surgery.

No, it's fucking stupid gatekeeping.

Some people require plastic surgery due to injuries. But even "cosmetic" surgery is entirely the business of the person.

Unless you can prove that surgery was undertaken to catch your eyes, you're just too full of yourself, and are projecting your insecurities.
