Religion. Supposedly, god hates fags, that's why he made so many of them! So, most people that believe in that junk have been brainwashed to believe that if guys wear fem attire, they must be gay and being gay is a really bad thing! Somehow, it never stops girls from wearing pants or tuxedoes, or various religion figures (popes, priests, monks, etc.) from wearing dresses OR chasing after little boys!!

The fashion trend hasn't happened yet. Peak metrosexual was the highest probability chance, but it didn't happen. Give it another 15 years. Men need to get out of the hole they are in right now, beat their hairy chests for a bit, become comfortable in their own skin, and then back to metrosexual again. Lather, rinse, repeat. 15 years should just about do it.

It's happened, it just hasn't caught on all that much. I've been wearing one for 4 decades and my fans love it and demand it and a few of them even show up in skirts to honour me! Since I started wearing them, I've seen a number of other drummers wear them, too!!

Men absolutely can wear skirts, but social norms are stubborn. Western fashion got very gendered in the 19th–20th centuries: trousers became tied to masculinity, work, and power, while skirts were labeled “feminine.” Anything coded feminine on a man gets policed harder.

It’s shifting slowly though: designers, celebrities, and younger generations are normalizing it. Culture just hasn’t fully caught up yet.

There's a company I spotted about 20 years ago called, Utilikilts. They make kilts for guys to wear while doing construction work. They're like cargo pants where you have a loop to hang a hammer and other tools and loads of pockets for nails and other things you might need. I was downtown one day a few years later and saw a guy wearing one.

It's a cultural thing. Kilts are accepted as a part of Scottish culture. If a man takes to the streets of Walsall wearing a ladies skirt he will be subjected to ridicule and possibly a severe beating.
