What is "unofficial dating"?

My ex boyfriend and I dated about a year and now have been broken up for about three months. He considers us now to be unofficially dating and I don't know what that means. Any ideas? and I still really love him or like him and want to be official is there any hope for another relationship?

we haven't really seen each other much because of the summer and I swim competitively and play sports and work so I am really busy but we have talked to each other almost every day through text and Facebook and the phone. we kissed 1 time we hung out

Its like saying I'm a virgin again. Well, how is that possible? so the fact that yall already dated before then got in a relationship and then broken up and now back dating again. Its not like the first time and you already know each other so its not really a date. Its like rekindling the relationship to see if yall can work it out this time. Unofficial date.

Are you two going on dates? Because the only think I can think of that would warrant that term would be if you two are still regularly seeing each other but you two haven't exactly said that it would be an exclusive relationship. Like maybe it's unofficial because you two can still see other people? I would need more information to give you a good answer.

it means that you guys are dating, but you're not in an exclusive relationship. you aren't boyfriend/girlfriend anymore.
