From my experience, it's kinda similar. This guy at my job program WON'T get over me and I don't know what his problem is. But he always tells me "you're nice! You're a really nice person.." blah blah. He probably likes you

It could mean that he thinks you're 'awesome' as a friend, or in a more sexual way. Really depends on the context, ie, "Your tits are awesome' or 'your grades are awesome'
