Guys, what does it mean if my crush asked my friend for my number?

I asked my crush why he wanted my number and he said he wanted to text me but he never texted me and its been around a week since my friend told me that he asked her for my number. Does it mean that he lied to me? I have his number too so shall I try texting him why he don't text me even though he told me that he wanted my number to text me? He is not the type that goes on his phone 24/7 so I'm not sure if he will respond me(I don't really mind if he text me in like a month or so. I'm just afraid that he won't text me back like forever)
