Guys, Do shy guys avoid eye contact in the halls?

As a shy guy, do you ever not acknowledge someone you know? There is a guy in my gym class who I have talked to a few times, he's really friendly! But outside of gym he always avoids me like I'm the plague. WHAT IS GOING ON?

There is two possibilities here. The first is maybe he does get the impression that you like him and he feels like your trying to force him to take notice of you. Maybe he's just not wanting to hurt your feelings and believes if he keeps his distance you'll just stop. The second possibility is he does like you and he gets nervous around you and is afraid of what he might say. ( i know there particular women I wouldn't want to be trapped in an elevator for more than 2 minutes with. Not because I dislike them but because I actually do and being alone with them like that would send me into a panic, LOL). Either of those possibilities could be true, see if you can catch him looking at you a lot like when your not looking. Use a mirror or engage a friend to help, It's important that he doesn't see you looking at him to gauge which ever possibility it is. If he doesn't look at you a lot when your not looking then it's likely the first because he just doesn't care. If he's looking at you when you're not looking then it's likely the second one. If be the latter then move in for the kill, LOL. so to speak :) Which is to say draw him into a a conversation no matter how reluctant he might seem. (He's trapped in that elevator mode knowing if he has to talk with you alone he's going to pour out his feelings to you, and he's frighten of it because he's fearful you'll say no). Ok , Anyways. They avoid eye contact because they dont want to be seen, they dont want for you to notice him because he is embarrassed he is going to do something stupid or bad

Okay, could you interpret this then?
I was on my way to the public library to access Internet so I could print something for school. In the mudroom to exit the school, I saw him standing there, and again he avoided contact. Usually a normal person would just stay there, stand and wait for whomever they were waiting for, but this guy decides to take his stuff and head to the stairwell when he sees me enter the mudroom. I have to stop for a moment in the mudroom to put my jacket on because it was snowing outside. First of all, is it that horrible to stand in a mudroom with me for like 10 seconds, I was clearly leaving! After coming from the library I decided to go back to school to just chill with some friends before the next class starts. I go through the front door this time and there he is. He deliberately turns to face the wall and pretends seeing me. I was extremely offended. Cuz this dude is really cool in gym class, so I don't know what happened
