Guys, Why would a guy flirt and act interested but keep mentioning his girlfriend?

I have been talking to/hanging out with a guy for over a year now and since day one he has complimented me, called me stunning, etc and has been flirty. Just recently, he started a conversation with me and randomly said he just got a girlfriend. It surprised me because I was convinced he had feelings for me. Since then, he has continued to be flirty. He commented on a picture of mine saying that I look good and has tried to spend time with me. It happened again today where he mentioned his girlfriend coming over tomorrow when we weren't talking about anything related to that. I still consider us friends because we still talk and whatnot, but why is he still flirting with me and saying all these things?

Judging by the age, he may just be trying to get a feel for how you feel. Maybe he is mentioning her because he actually wants to gauge your response. Its tough to get out of the friend zone, sometimes even if you both have feelings. Try being outright with him without divulging your undying love.😉

I have yet to see his girlfriend in person. I don't even know her name and he hasn't posted anything relating to her. But why would he want to see my reaction? Why tell me in the first place?
