Why do guys put their hand on top?

when holding hands why do guys always go on the outside in front of the girls' hand? I think its funny it just always ends up this way.

I agree, I think it has to do with men generally taking the "lead". When I hold hands with other girls, they tend to go for the behind/underneath position. Although, I've noticed that when I hold hands with men who are submissive, they also take the behind/underneath position rather than in front.

Along with everyone's response of "men like to take the lead" also take into account that men are instinctively protective. Having his hand over yours makes him feel like he's "protecting" you...it is all just instincts.

usually the girl puts her hand on bottom since she is shorter and it is easier for me to take her hand. I think a lot is instinct and the rest is just how it happens at the moment

Men are usually taller than the female so it is more comfortable and we usually walk in front so its easier that way.
