What does it mean when a guy friend holds your hand for a few minutes?

I have a friend I don't see often or talk to much, he lives about 2 hours away. I attended an event he was at and became emotional about the event. Later after several hugs, we were talking about a project he's a part of when I noticed he was holding my hand. It wasn't that I didn't like it I just didn't expect it. And to be honest I don't even recall when our hands broke apart. A few hugs later and I left..

What does that mean? He was comforting even though we were talking about something else? He does that with all his friends? or he is interested though he makes no further moves?

So this is weird.. I hear from a mutual friend that hush hush he has an interest in a girl from out of state who doesn't have many of his personal face book friends..i happen to be from out of state and don't have many of his same friends but I dismiss it

Last night I saw him at his show.. and I thought I would just let all personal feelings go and just be a friend.. and then while I am talking to his friend I feel him staring at me from my immed. left. My other friend noticed too.. ?

We still don't converse that much away from when I see him at these once a month functions for a few moments. He introduced me to his mom but he has met mine.. am I making too much of this?
