How to improve my texting skills in a way that keeps a guy hooked?

Hey y'all,

I tend to be a good conversationalist one on one, but texting isn't my thing. So guys, I'd like your help.

What makes a woman a great texter to you, have that fantastic rapport and get you interested? How often should she be texting you? How soon should she reply without scaring you of? Is silence a good thing? What's your opinion on emojis? Does punctuation matter?

First of all, I commend you for caring and wanting to be better, and for reaching out to the community for help. You deserve respect for that alone.

Texting is a very versatile platform. It can be used for telegrams, Post-it notes, postcards, casual chats, or even a long, deep conversation. Basically, for any kind of communication that you need to do, texting can be used. And emojis are fine. :)

Punctuation matters, because the meaning can be misconstrued if the sentence is not punctuated properly. That's why the English language developed punctuation in the first place. Everything that exists has a purpose.

Now, in the context of romance, the things you need to remember most are respect and manners. Which, frankly, is also the case in any other kind of communication. For instance:
1) Speak when spoken to.
2) Don't interrupt.
3) Listen.
4) Don't yell or shout.
5) Be courteous of the other person's time.

Aside from that, the main thing is just to not forget what the end goal is. You're trying to make the other person fall in love with you. You don't do that by frustrating them or pissing them off. You do that by winning their heart. And how do you win their heart? You show them the goodness in your own heart. That means talking to them and having a sincere dialogue and sharing who you are on the inside, and getting to know who they are as well. You can't do that through silence. You have to talk. Even if the words you're speaking are not audible but instead written and read; that's OK! Just keep the communication open and flowing freely. And keep your mind open as well. You never know what magic may happen. 🙂

Guys tend to like girls that show interest in them, asking them questions, that really matter to them. It's on the girl to find out about it. Being a tad bit of naughty also helps them getting hooked to the girl (as you know guys have a one track mind). It's amazing if their interests match or the girl tries to get involved in things that interests the guy.
How often to text depends on the involvement of the guy as well. You can see it in their texts as well. If they text you often, they sure are interested. If they aren't texting you often, it's better if you match their pace.
The answer to how soon also depends on the pace of the texts you receive from the guy. It's mostly about matching their pace. Their pace of texts will surely let you know if they are interested in you.
Yes, silence is golden. But communication is the key. The guy wants to hear things from you directly. If it's something that's awkward to tell, he might react a bit at the moment, but he'll always appreciate that he got the piece of information from you.
Do use emojis. Tells about the way you feel. Keep it short. Don't send a train of emojis to express your feeling.
Punctuations matter to some guys and not so much to others. You can find out if it matters to them by the way they text you.

I'd say reply in time, it doesn't mean you always have to reply the moment they text you even if you're in the middle of an important meeting, but don't make them wait too long for a reply unnecessarily.

Don't worry too much about proper grammar and punctuations. Interestingly enough, you actually seem more approachable in text if you don't care much about those, but also you don't need to use Russian text in an desperate attempt to make yourself look cool.

I think the rest should just be you bring comfortable and confident. Be yourself, don't worry too much. Let the conversation flow naturally. I can't tell you much about silence because I'm hardly ever silent, but emojis see fun and perfectly fine to use, especially when you make a joke that could easily be misinterpreted, like making a statement that sounds serious but some a wink emoji to communicate that it isn't serious at all.

Being flirtatious keeps me interested - that works best with with displays of intelligence & humor. How often? It's good so long as he's replying. Try short bursts at first, use work, meals, sleep as excuses to take natural breaks. Keep him wanting more. Let him text you first occasionally; if he doesn't, consider moving on. Silence can be fine, especially if you are speechless. You could always break it with small talk (of favorites or topical events, for example). I prefer simple, strategic emoticons more than emojis. ;) Punctuation is important to older & intelligent men.

I don't have a particular preferable frequency, but everyday would be too much. As long as she writes first every now and then, she'll keep me interested. Silence isn't a good thing. The sooner she replies, the better. I find delays on purpose to be a deal breaker. I don't mind punctuation, as long as the message is understandable. Emojis take away the formality, so they're good. The content of the messages can really be anything, and it'll come down to the person what they like and don't like. Personally, I find it a huge warning sign when someone makes conversation by talking about other people's lives, for instance

I like texting, especially in this quaratine time. Video chat is fun, but it leaves plenty of "dead" times where the other person (or you) are doing stuff and don't really have full attention. I'd say save it for once you know each other a little more. My GO-TO is an app like Snapchat or other where you can send both texts, pics, and voice messages. The later definitely makes it fun and interesting. Sometimes texts can be misinterpreted. What is better: Texting goodnight, or getting a little 10 second voice message goodnight? Snaps work well too cuz it gives them a peek into your life.

One word replies is a no no, if the guy writes quite abit, write quite abit back, means your making an effort, replying with just "OK" would be an instant bye bye from me, maybe come up with a question you'd like to ask after answering a question he's asked.. I'm no expert by the way, I'm only recently out of a long term marriage and never saw me having to do this Internet dating malarkey a few months ago, but my marriage is dead in the water (her choice by the way, not mine) so I've had to learn pretty quick, apparently I'm quite good at it, but only with women on the other side of the world apparently...

It's not that difficult. You just have to be yourself. Talk about likes an disklikes. Talk about each other. Being a little inquisitive and curious is what keeps a conversation going, but ofc don't make it like you are interrogating.
Keep it humorous and funny, it lightens any awkward moments. Even intelligent puns and comments make a guy more interested in talking and knowing you so he doesn't want to go away.
Emojis and punctuation are not mandatory but they make understanding texts better. Emoji make the person reading know your expression or mood so he/she can reply accordingly.
Silence is not very good. It makes things awkward and the chat might not progress further.
Reply as quickly as you can. Take too long and the guy won't be bothered to wait too long. If you are busy, straight up let the person know. Say you'll text when free and definitely don't forget to text back.
Keep this in mind and you'll be keeping people in line to text with you, guys and the girls.

I have learnt this the longer way but if it isn't obvious you have already lost. It isn't a game to strategize about, you ask what you want to know and what you are interested in knowing and having a cross conversation/chatting about. Be geniune and if you do it well it will probably work out.

My rule is, when u don't know what to answer... Don't so try to give us room for answering. I like to use emojis but I try not to get out of hand, stick to expressions.
Punctuation can matter but the more you talk the less it matters.

Frankly it’s not a woman’s texting skills that keep me or most men around. Women use text as conversation. Most texts by males are short and to the point. Many women are constantly texting, most of it just the minutia of her day. Most guys find these excessive texts annoying. Save that stuff for your GFs. But less is definitely more. Don’t reply too fast or say too much
