How to convince a guy to date me and not be friends with benefits?

My crush apparently only wants to be friends with benefits with me (we’re both 17) and I don’t want to because I actually have feelings for him. We haven’t done anything besides make out but he treats me like we’re in a relationship, he’ll kiss me goodbye and cuddle me in public and stuff and we haven’t actually done anything sexual.
but he told our friend that he wanted to be friends with benefits and that he doesn’t want a relationship before schoolies (schoolies is just a holiday that you go on with your friends when you graduate high school and everyone gets drunk and has sex with anyone).
He said he’s not trying to lead me on and that he doesn’t mean to kiss me and that’s there just “so much sexual tension between us” but I don’t want to do stuff with him unless he’s in a relationship and I can’t get over him so I’m lost with what to do

Of course he isn’t ready. He is 17 years old and the real world hasn’t started for him. He doesn’t have much to offer you and I think he realizes that. I think it’s best you stick to just having fun with him because honestly it sounds like he’s saying no for a reason. He’s being smart and not committing to someone so early in his life.

I haven’t asked him yet and I feel like it’s too soon because we only just hung out together for the first time this past weekend but it was for the whole weekend. I’ve liked him for a while because we’ve shared the same friends but we just didn’t speak too often until recently so I don’t want to ask him yet because we still haven’t really been friends for that long
