How do you tell if your friend is just being more friendly or there's something else there?

My guy friend has been extra nice, sweet and more willing to help me than usual. We don't get to hangout as much as we'd like, so lately it's been through texts and phone calls. He even drunk texted me which he never does and it's been more fun and playful

This is mean he is like you or he is now more interested on you like any dude , now I think he sees you in different way than before like respecting or afraid on you and more attractive
