Is texting a girl hi (name) being weird?

i like a girl for the past 5 months and i wanted to talk to here so i texted here on instagram saying hi and here name but I don't know if its weird

Depends. If you have never talked to the girl before (or if she has never noticed you) and her Instagram does not mention her name, it would definitely be weird for you to say "hi (name)"

Probably just stick with "hi, how are you? I'm Matthew" and strike up a conversation about her latest post/story

Also, important point to note - don't be sexual. It's a huge turn off.

It's always nice to come up with something that will spark a conversation.

Yeah that is weird man. You want to say something that takes you at least 7 hours to think of and it has to be unique too.

Obviously I'm joking in order to get my point across. It isn't weird but girls don't respond to people they don't know. So now you have to somehow know her in order to say hi to her. Gl man.

Its not weird but it doesn't really give her much to work with in terms of striking up a conversation. You need something else that relates to her in some way like something you notice in her pictures thats not sexual and go from there allowing her to elaborate on whatever you brought up
