How can I tell the difference between a girl using her flirting powers to get what she wants vs. flirting becuase she is attracted to me?

Ok… I’ll give you an example. No. Sorry, two examples. Here:

TRANSACTIONAL FLIRTING: My son (then 14/15) needed a pair of glasses. I took him to the shop and there was a new shopgirl — a short little thing with a cleavage that ran down for miles. She leaned over the counter while trying to sell him on the UGLIEST set of glasses in the store (mind you, also $$$). My son was … distracted. I asked the girl if she could kindly take her boobs off the counter so we could pick from the $50 glasses she was blocking. The store manager (an old friend of mine) ducked to laugh… but I ended up having to call him over bc the girl kept trying to sell my son on the $$$ ugly pair, telling him how handsome he looked while he glanced at her boobs rather than at the mirror. (In his defense, objectively speaking they were a nice set of boobs, even I have to admit that much, but I was disgusted by the overt prostitution involved in conning my kid.)

I told the girl we don’t want them, they don’t suit his face. She dismissively told me that he’s the man and should pick his own glasses then looked at him and said, “Isn’t that what you want to do, sweetie?”

This girl was tap dancing on my last nerve. I answered her by saying I’m paying for it, so she better pick her boobs up off the counter… then I turned to the manager and told him to please take over for this clueless fembot because I was about to lose my cool and actually say something bad. He chuckled, told her to take her break and sold us the affordable replacement glasses my son needed to get on with his homework….

“She was just trying to make a commission,” he said. (I bit my tongue before commenting on where she should be working for such overtly sexually-based commission….) I just gave the manager a look, then looked at my son and warned him never to bring home a little chippy like that one.

GENUINE FLIRTING (AS A SIGN OF INTEREST OR AFFECTION): While the first example was a true but extreme depiction of “flirting for a material ulterior motive,” most girls flirt with a guy out of more genuine interest or affection. The effort is lighter, perhaps a little awkward or accidental. It’s only for the guy to see or notice, it’s not rude or intended to trick him into buying or getting anything for her. The goal is to keep his interest and to keep him wanting more time with her.

A girl will usually flirt to lead to kissing or sex if she's attracted. If she's doing it for fun, she won't kiss you or do anything physical. She will say she's just kidding or play it off.

If it's in a work environment and there's no activities planned outside of work, she is not interested.

I think I accidently flirted with a guy. When it was grad night at Disneyland. He said we didn't get to ride any rides together. And I said we can always come back. I literally wasn't even thinking. I was trying to flirt. That's just what came out of my mouth.
